Lesley W. says, "Signing up for my first art class at Walker Light Studio was the biggest gift I gave myself as an artist. I was certain, at that time, that I would never have the necessary hand-control needed to draw anything recognizable. After introducing himself, our teacher, Joe Holliman, asked each student to introduce themselves and say a little about their experiences in making art. When my turn came, I said “This is my first class, and I must have been nuts to have signed up for it. My signature isn’t even legible. My hands are stupid.” Joe laughed, then replied:” Art begins in the eyes, not the fingers, and it comes from the heart, not the paint box.” From that first day, and onward, I keep learning the truth of his reply, and since that starting point my work has been exhibited in four group shows and a solo exhibition, and I’ve sold pieces in both the United States and Europe. Even more important, making art now fills my life with joy, every day. " Read more

Charles taught me both individually and in a group setting, and he has a fantastic ear for each student's pronunciation problems, and an approach to improve them. In addition to being aware of individual sounds, he is also an expert at linking, syllable length, and intonation, along with exercises to work on these essential areas of the music of the English language. Besides working on pronunciation in particular, Charles has lots of ways to improve your public speaking and presentation skills in general.

Savon was one of my earliest mentors when I began debating, at nearly 12 years old. As an older team member he was revered for his debate skills, but more importantly, he was valued for his leadership and teaching spirit. He voluntarily took less experienced debaters under his wing, teaching us how to engage in complex and intellectual converse while reminding us to remain confident in our words and our composure. His training allowed me, at 14 years old, to speak confidently about foreign policies, the financial climate and social constructs. Moreover, my experience with Savon had a lasting impact on my growth and career pursuits. I have the ability to articulate my thoughts clearly to others, to think quickly even in a pressuring environment, and be confident in who I am and my value.
