About
Katie Detlefsen is Director of Instruction at West Bay Club. She has been named among the Top 50 LPGA Teachers in the world and has a passion for helping golfers to improve their games and have more fun. Katie has been featured as an instructor on Golf Channel’s The Golf Fix and School of Golf. She was recently nominated as one of the Best Young Teachers in America by Golf Digest. Katie’s experience includes working as a certified instructor for Golf Digest and Advantage Golf Schools, as well as a Certified Instructor for top-rated teacher Rick Smith. With a strong playing background as a 4x Minnesota State High School Individual Champion, D1 collegiate golfer and playing professional on the LPGA and Symetra Tours, Katie is highly invested in helping golfers to PLAY better and not just swing better. Katie utilizes the industry leading Trackman 4 radar technology to identify areas for improvement and measure progress across a variety of parameters- from club path and club face angles at impact to carry yardages and ball speeds.
Katie has experience working with golfers of all ages and abilities and enjoys teaching full swing, short game and course management concepts. She has taught at the LPGA’s National Girls Golf Academy and enjoys making golf fun for juniors and adults alike. Katie is a past recipient of the LPGA’s Dinah Shore Trophy for combined excellence in scoring average, academic performance and commitment to community service while also receiving Academic All American accolades at the University of Central Florida. She serves middle school students at her church and has volunteered with FCA Golf Camps. In addition to teaching, Katie has worked as an Assistant Coach for the Division I Florida Gulf Coast University Women’s Golf Team. Katie recently competed on Golf Channel’s golf competition reality series Big Break Myrtle Beach.
