Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I usually offer a complimentary session where we meet to see if we are a good match. If I do not think that I am the best match for your needs, I will refer you to another coach in my professional contacts circle.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Master's in Educational Leadership. I have worked with many parents and students after teaching for over 30 years.
I also am the mother of twins, one of whom has a learning disability. I am very skilled at working with students who have ADD, learning disabilties, or students who are high-functioning Aspergers.
Another area in which I have received extensive training is conflict resolution. This training has enabled me to help clients transform their lives and coach them on how to handle conflict in a positive and productive manner.
I have a lot of experience of working with parents as an experienced educator. I coach parents on how to talk to their children, so they will listen.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I have a 5 session package for $500 and a 10 session package for $1000.
Each session is 60 minutes long and includes feedback and an action item list.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching soon after graduating from college. I also spent one year in South America and one year in France to prepare me in my subject area, Spanish, ESL, and French. I have an appreciation for students of different backgrounds and cultures.
After from retiring from teaching a few years ago, I received my coaching credentials and started my coaching practice.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of all ability levels and backgrounds, including learning disabilities and students on the spectrum.
I customize my coaching and teaching to the student's learning style.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
An event that I enjoyed recently was a trip which I took to Oregon. I enjoyed learning about the history of Oregon. I also enjoyed talking to people from the area and seeing the beautiful natural sites there.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would advise a student to at least talk or meet the teacher before hiring him or her. A student should feel comfortable with the teacher and feel that the teacher will teach him/her in a way that matches his/her learning style.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What is my main objective?
What is holding me back?
