What types of students have you worked with?
All levels from beginners just starting to learn Dressage-Grand Prix. Also hunter jumper riders seeking to improve their flat work. All ages: Adult amateurs, junior young riders and pros.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Schedule a trial lesson. Take time during that lesson to discuss your goals and individual needs, and to ask any questions you have. This trial lesson will also give you the opportunity to see if you feel the trainer's teaching style and methods are a good fit for you and your horse.
I always encourage new students who contact me to schedule a trial lesson so we can meet and they can get a feel for my training.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Be sure to be honest with the trainer about any needs you or your horse may have. As a trainer, I really care about my students progress and bringing out the best in them. If my student has any specific needs or concerns I encourage them to tell me so I can create the best possible customized lesson plan and training program for both them & their horse. I have a unique ability to explain complicated concepts and make them easy to understand. I enjoy challenging my students and bringing out the best in them with a teaching method that builds confidence without causing unnecessary stress. I do not believe in yelling at or talking down to a student. As a trainer and instructor it’s very important not to teach in a manner that causes negative emotions that would then transfer from the rider to the horse. My style of teaching allows my students to achieve their best in a positive and encouraging way.
