English And Western Horseback Riding Lessons

About

Teaching the horse from the hoof up!

We love introducing new riders to our love for horses! We provide a solid foundation by teaching from the hoof up. It's important for all riders to know how to properly care for their horse before they ride. All riders learn how to groom and tack their horses properly.

We provide a solid foundation in English or Western riding. In addition to grooming and tacking, riders learn how to mount and dismount, emergency dismount, proper hand and foot placement, steering, relaxed and active walk, sitting trot (posting trot and 2-point for our English riders), and canter.

As riders become more advanced We are happy to teach more advanced skills including collected and extended trot, collected canter, gallop, lead changes and flying lead changes, half seat, jumping, and neck reining for our Western riders.

We offer 20+ years experience as well as safe and reliable master lesson horses.

Get away from the hectic drama barns. We are low key and drama free. We push our riders to do their best but we don't rush. Every rider learns at their own pace.

Give us a try! Come meet Gunner and the Gang! You will be glad you did!

I absolutely love introducing kids to the world I fell in love with so many years ago.

Horses not only provide us with joy but they are the ultimate teachers. The teach children and adults how to love, how to trust and how to earn trust. How to give and get respect. They teach that every action has a reaction, good or bad. The instill confidence, boost self esteem, help manage anger and sadness. They are there during the good times, and the bad ones. They teach leadership and teamwork, at the same time. Your child will learn so much, and the best part is they won't know they are learning. The pasture is their classroom, the saddle and the brushes are their books, and their horse rewards them immediately when they make good choices. It doesn't get much better than this.

    Frequently asked questions

New students start by meeting and greeting their horse. They learn the different types of brushes and the order and how they are used. They are then introduced to their tack and help take up their horse. We learn all of the basic parts of tack day 1. They learn how to put on the bridle and how to properly lead their horse.

Students then learn how to do final safety checks before getting on and put on their helmet. Students are instructed how to get on and are hand walked until they feel comfortable. Once comfortable we adjust feet and hand positions (heels down, thumbs up). They are put on a lunge line where they walk in a large circle and practice putting their heels down and thumbs up. We then work on balance. Shoulders back. For young kids we do around the world games. Older students drop reins and stirrups and learn to stay balanced on a walking horse. Before the 1st lesson is over riders are allowed to feel a slow trot. This will be worked on more in lesson number 2.
