About
Alan Chung - Golf Instructor : Island Pacific Golf Academy
I have trained and coached my daughter Leia Chung through the basics in golf from a young age of 3 years old through Highschool where she won and swept the OIA and State Championships in 2019 as a 14 year old. I also caddied over 80 U.S Kids Golf Tournaments including 2 U.S Kids World Golf Championships, 2 World Masters Championships. In 2022 after graduating from Leilehua Highschool she earned a full ride scholarship to play D1 golf for Boise State University, Idaho/Majoring in Business and Finance. She is currently a junior in college.
Fun Fact: Leia is featured in a golf movie called "The Short Game". A movie that was produced in 2012 about 7 year old golfers, where they give you a behind the scenes look at their work ethics on the course and golf practice routines. Leia had her 5 minutes of fame. She was not one of the focused players in the movie but she did place 3rd place in the World Championship and played in the final grouping which included the prodigy golfer Alexa Pano who currently now plays on the LPGA Tour. The Short Game movie still plays on Netflix.
We are located at Hawaii Prince Golf Course in Kapolei, Ewa Beach area. We have 3 putting greens, 3 chipping areas, public driving range, private teaching range and a sand practice area for teaching purposes. I go through everything from shortgame, putting, iron play, driver, hybrids, woods, course management, mental strategy and mindset in tournament play.
Beyond learning the game, golf naturally promotes great character-building habits that will carry across into your everyday life. By playing golf, you naturally build honesty, patience, and problem-solving skills.
Golf will naturally promote and teach honesty; there is nobody watching you while you’re on the course, and you’re supposed to call your own penalties and play the golf ball from where it is. An honest golfer will count every stroke and won’t cheat when they’re putting scores down.
Because the game is quite challenging, it also teaches patience. It’s very easy to get frustrated while out on the golf course, and staying patient is a huge key to staying calm after a bad shot or a bad hole. Playing more golf helps you flex that patience muscle, which of course can be quite useful both on and off the golf course.
Finally, the game of golf can help you become a real problem solver. While you’re out there playing you have to make decisions on every hole and every shot. The game requires a ton of strategy, whether that means avoiding hazards and bunkers or playing shots based off of how the wind blows, there are plenty of opportunities to solve problems and learn from mistakes.
