About

Christy Bourbonnais is the owner, instructor, trainer, coach and competitor. She has been passionate about horses ever since she was knee high to a fire plug! She rode her whole life and started training outside horses when she was 8 years old. She believes in a solid foundation for the horse and rider is extremely important. Having fun thru learning makes the process of progressing from beginner-beginner to intermediate and advanced levels helpful. She teaches how to handle a horse on the ground, grooming, caring for a horse, herd management and riding. She is very detailed and patient. She loves working with those who want to really learn to ride and compete. Not all have to compete to take lessons. Christy works extremely well with riders returning to riding after many years off or after injuries. She has patience and kindness that most people do not provide. She is good with kids and also has interns and helpers who love to work with kids too. Most lessons are individual or small group to ensure lots of feedback. That way the riders progress much faster and have a solid foundation. Christy competes in Barrel racing, Pole Bending, Roping, Western Dresssage, Ranch horse and Cattle classes. She is all about the details! She does not harp, but definately will wake up your senses and have you look deeper and deeper into the horse's mind and body. Christy has a magical ability to tap into a rider and help them see more about themselves and enhance their belief about their abilities not just under saddle, but in the outside world too! Christy trains and competes in many associations including futurities, AQHA, NBHA, WRA, Aphc, BBR, and more. She also has helped many riders work their way up to earn scholarships and gain valuable life skills applicable for college and future endeavors. Give her a call. You will not be disappointed. Check out her tack shop at her ranch. She has a Facebook page and web site. WWW.ccrequinecenter.com

I had Christy come to my barn to evaluate both me and my horse. Im a senior citizen with confidence issues and had just purchased my horse a few months before to be used for trail riding. She then gave me options to consider. I decided to send my horse to her for training and take lessons on her well trained horses at the level I was comfortable with at the time and had a chance to ride and feel how a well trained horse moves while being very positive and informative and explaining the hows and whys. To date Ive taken 2 horses for training/lessons and plan on taking another this year. She also had a great ground work clinic that was full of obstacles which was a first for me and though nervous to start out, had a great time and met great people all ages. I trail ride and like to also do arena work with my horses at home and learn something new each time we have a lesson. She also helped me sell one of my horses which through no fault of the horse(I needed a shorter one), Christy helped me sell her to a great family with a teenage girl to love and ride! I trail ride but if you want to compete at barrel racing, poles or roping she can do that too! I highly recommend Christy for any of your horse/rider concerns!!

Christy listened to me when my horse had health issues. She worked hard to resolve the issues through chiropractor care, veterinary care including corrective shoeing. Christy is an awesome instructor and has a lot of patience when teaching. Cripple Creek Ranch is a great place for resolving issues with your horse and lessons to improve your own horsemanship!

Christy is beyond caring and helpful. I worked with her and she helped me realize that my goals were obtainable! My horse needed work and I needed help with my riding position, having independent seat and then how to cue properly. Once those basics were squared away, I was able to begin getting ready for competition. She is so knowledgeable and caring.

    Frequently asked questions

I like to chat with my students to find out their goals, reasons for taking lessons, what their experiences have been, what they like about their riding, what they dislike about their riding. I like to inquire about any problems they have encounted with their riding or training. After chatting some, I have a few forms for them to fill out and then we determine a lessons date and time. First lesson starts with grooming, tacking and ground work.

Many years of experience! Plus I worked, trained or was coached by some of the best horseman and women in the industry. I am not afraid to grab any related training that I can find and continue to advance myself with lessons from those who I can find that have relavant info.

Yes I do. They are based upon students age as a youth, then on the type of lesson they are looking for.

As a horse trainer, I often had the owners wanting to learn more about their newly trained horse. Many students have been with me for years.

Young, old, new riders, returning riders, those coming back after injuries. A large variety.

Having my horse choosen to be interviewed by RIDETV for a Mustang competiting at the NBHA World Show. There were no other Mustang s there. He did very well for me as a pinch hitter. My barrel mare was injured a week before leaving for the world show, so I put a week of barrel work training on my Mustang and off we went across the country to the World Show!

Determine you avability, your desired goal, how hard you want to work for the goal and determine your learning style.

Their time commitment. Availability. Costs. Long term or short term student.
