Frequently asked questions

We like to have new students come out to the farm and get to know our instructors to insure the right fit. If the student is using one of our.l school horses for the lesson, we encourage them to arrive 30 minutes early to groom and tack their mount. Once on and in the arena, the first lesson will consist of building confidence and learning each student as an individual. We will pinpoint what to focus on within the ride.

Our instructors are all either USDF Bronze, Silver, or Gold medalists. Each is actively competing and constantly seeking instruction from the best in the industry to further our own education.

We have a range of pricing options for lessons starting at $40 per lesson with an apprentice trainer, options with an assistant trainer and options with a head trainer.

Born in Steamboat Springs, CO and raised in Wichita, KS, Emily started her riding career before she could walk, accompanying her parents on pack trips in the Rocky Mountains. Emily began showing at age 7 in the Hunter/Jumper ring, but soon felt drawn to the thrill of eventing. Through eventing, she developed a passion for dressage. In 2001, Emily began training with USA Dressage Idol winner, Philesha Chandler.

In 2004, at the age of 14, Emily purchased 3 year old Miramonte, an unbroken warmblood mare, whom she started under saddle. Since then they have worked in tandem to realize many accomplishments including the USDF Bronze, Silver and Gold Medals. They have actively campaigned at FEI Grand Prix and have claimed titles such as KDA Grand Prix Champion and AWS/USDF Reserve National Champion at Grand Prix.

In addition to Miramonte, Emily has carefully developed over 10 horses to the FEI levels, including the up and coming Dancer, a beautiful 18hh chestnut KWPN gelding and Emily's current Grand Prix mount. Emily is known for her ability to work with both young and difficult horses and especially has a talent for restarting Thoroughbreds off track and placing them into new careers. Emily is also a graduate of the University of Kentucky with a BS in Equine Management and Science and a minor in Agricultural Economics. Emily plans to continuously study and pursue the art of dressage and will do so out of her home base of Miramonte Equine located in the heart of the Bluegrass.

We pride ourselves in working with not only dressage riders, but also enhancing the flat work of hunter jumpers and event riders. We also love starting beginner riders out on their riding careers! Focusing on body control and the use of aids, instruction at Miramonte Equine benefits any and all types of riding.
