Cory Amory is the golf instructor at Lakewood Golf Club. He has trained under some of the best teachers in the country including Kandi Comer (US Kids Top 50 Junior Instructor), Rob McNamara (three-time All-American at LSU), and renowned sports psychologist Dr. Bob Rotella. The valuable experience gained from these mentors has helped Cory to develop a simplistic approach to teaching centered around solid fundamentals, a dedication to the short game, and a strong mentality. He is not a believer in the one-swing-fits-all mode of teaching but instead helps players to build a swing around their natural strengths.

While Cory has helped players of all ages, he specializes in teaching juniors. He believes in setting personal goals and that the lessons learned in golf are beneficial to the maturation process of young people. He is a proponent of making practice sessions more fun and effective through games and challenges that carry over to the course. Cory’s main goal as a teacher is to make golf more enjoyable for players of all skill levels.

Cory was born and raised in Charlottesville, Virginia where he began playing golf at the age of 7. Golf was a family activity for Cory and he spent many days out on the golf course with his father, uncle, and cousins. His passion for the game grew quickly and he enjoyed a successful junior career highlighted by an individual and team win at the 2004 Virginia State High School Championship. Cory was the 55th ranked player in his graduating class and accepted a golf scholarship to East Carolina University where he was an Academic All-American before transferring to the University of Virginia to study psychology.

During his senior year at UVA, Cory became the university’s first undergraduate faculty member when he instructed a golf class that included over 20 of his fellow students. He received the department’s highest reviews on end-of-semester student evaluations with perfect marks on all survey questions.

Following graduation, Cory took a job as an Assistant Professional at the Country Club of Virginia where he worked under the guidance of PGA Head Professional, Eric Layton. Cory primarily worked with the juniors at the club, giving lessons, running short game clinics, and teaching golf etiquette.

Currently, Cory's main golf goals are to become a Class A PGA member and qualify for the U.S Open. When not on the golf course, Cory enjoys playing sports, reading, and exploring New Orleans with his dog, Jackpot.
