Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When I start working with a new student, I will ask a series of questions in order to best determine goals and physical limitations. Key to my success as a nationally recognized teacher is my ability to identify how my students best learn (watching, doing, hearing, or any combination) and then I adapt my teaching to best serve my student. I will work with my student to establish goals, manage expectations and develop a game plan.
I customize a teaching program for each student that includes teaching indoors using a combination of teaching tools to target specific areas of focus, outdoor range time with the same training tools and playing lessons.

How did you get started teaching?
My mother is an avid golfer and she introduced me to the game of golf over 34 years ago by taking me to a schoolyard where we would practice hitting and then shagging our own golf balls. I figured out a way to make our practice sessions more fun by training my dog Pepper to shag the golf balls for us! These were some of the happiest days and really why I fell in love with the game of golf.
While at Methodist College, me and my team won Methodist's first four NCAA Division III National Championships.
After graduating from Methodist College, I persued my dream of being a professional golfer and my dream of playing on the Futures Tour. After 6 months of traveling and playing, I realized my biggest contribution to the game would be as a teaching professional. Becoming a LPGA & PGA member was paramont. My passion for teaching grows stronger and stronger every year!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have extensively worked with individuals of all playing levels - from beginners to accomplished players (Amateur & Professional) and with all levels of physical ability - from athletes to golfers with disabilities.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I take great pride in my student's accomplishments - whether it is shooting a score they have been working towards, playing in their first tournament, or winning their tournaments. Each accomplishment is equally important to me. A beginner student in a practice session swinging in balance for every swing, a student won her 8th club championship, a student with a physical disability shot their lowest score during a tournament, an acommplished student has qualified for the USGA Women's Amateur tournament, other students play on the Golf Channel Am Tour, and my junior players played in club and Junior PGA tournaments. Every accomplishment is important and I look at each student's achievements with pride and fondness.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for a teacher who will work with you to identify how you best learn ( through doing, watching, hearing, combination of any/all of these) and then tailor their teaching style to best meet your needs.
A successful teacher and coach should be a good communicator, problem solver, an advocate and your cheerleader. Learning should be fun!
I am a big believer in swing drills and exercises, so look for a teacher that can help you with a golf fitness program that identifies and strengthens any weaknesses in your swing. I would also ask the teacher what training tools/aides do they use to compliment the lesson.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should think about what are their goals, why do they want to play golf - for recreation, competition, etc. and how much time are they able to commit to practicing and playing this game of a life time.
