About

I offer horsemanship lessons-not your average riding lesson! Lessons are private with a focus on building a relationship with the horse while grooming and tacking up. Natural horsemanship training techniques are taught to students and this not only helps deepen a relationship but provides knowledge of safety for the student. I teach all levels, specialize in adults getting back into the sport or recovering from a confidence issue. We ride with a traditional balanced seat, we also jump, love to go eventing, trail riding, learn how to complete obstacle courses, and condition for an endurance ride. I also help students find the right horse for them when they are ready. We occasionally have a horse for sale, and currently have several eventing ponies available for on farm leases. Find us on Facebook and book a lesson straight from there!

I absolutely love the horse/human interaction. Horses being prey animals makes us think quite differently. Horses also live in the moment. That is a practice that was difficult to embrace. But when I did, it changed my life.

i have competed in jumpers.

I won:

2013 Year end Grand High Point Overall Champion on Fly High’s Confetti

2013 Year end Grand High Point Division Champion on Fly High’s Confetti

2013 completed a 25 mile limited distance competitive trail ride in 4 hours 40 minutes on Dly High’s Confetti

2014 Year end reserve Grand High Point Division Champion on Fly High’s Fanfare

2010-2017 competed in and placed in several Judged Pleasure rides in the Northern VA area on Fly High’s Confetti

2005-2007 Natural Horsemanship training from a certified Frank Bell trainer

    Frequently asked questions

Upon arriving at the farm I typically give a ‘Nature of the horse’ discussion. The first lesson is held unmounted.  We discuss herd behavior, horse’s body langauge and ours.  Most importantly safety around horses. They are normally docile animals. However, they weigh between 800-1500lb and frighten easily.

I will get a horse and will begin to teach the student how to groom, the different tools used and why, along with the importance of grooming.  There is much to cover, it often flows over into the next lesson.

I am an American Riding Instructors Association certified instructor.  (ARIA)

I have been around horses my entire life.

I have been trained by professionals to train horses and improve ground manners.

I studied with Carolyn Resnick learning her Liberty program and the waterhole rituals.

I rode in lesson barns as a teen, leased a horse, worked for ride and training time into adulthood.

I continuously read.  Always learning. Can’t get enough information about the horse, rider and teaching.

One thing I love to do is figure out why a student is having a problem, from horseback. If I’m on a trail ride, I will recreate what the student is doing wrong, and really think about how it feels. I’ll do it right, watch the reaction of the horse, and think about the changes I made. Then I can bring that information to my student’s next ride.
