About
Ian Barrie is the Founder of Buttery Golf. A former Arizona-based club professional in the mid-1980s, Ian developed his teaching foundation in an era when working with players of all levels, especially juniors and everyday club golfers, was central to a club pro's role. His approach reflects that background, clear, practical, and focused on helping golfers improve without overcomplicating the game.
He teaches a brand of golf that feels as good as it looks, built on rhythm, balance, and a naturally “buttery” swing.
Inspired by the effortless tempo of players like Bobby Jones, Fred Couples, and Payne Stewart, Ian emphasizes a fluid, unforced motion where timing and feel replace tension and technical overload. His goal is simple, help golfers find a swing they can trust and repeat.
A Michigan Hickory Golf Champion in 2002, Ian brings a unique perspective shaped by traditional equipment, reinforcing the importance of true ball striking, control, and consistency.
Ian works with juniors, beginners, and mid-handicap golfers, helping them build confidence, improve contact, and enjoy the game with a swing that’s as smooth as it is reliable.
