Founded in 1996, Axis Music Academy is Michigan’s premier source for music education. We offer private music lessons and classes at our academy or in the comfort of your own home. As a performing songwriter and musician I have a great deal of experience to share. I am also a certified teacher (retired) with many years of experience working with students. I customize instruction to help students reach their own goals.

It's important to me that my students understand HOW to play, not just WHAT to play. I teach basic music theory so that my students can learn to play any song by EAR. I also teach techniques and tricks that I have mastered over the course of my 38-year career. I love music and sharing my knowledge with beginners and new friends. I'm always on the lookout for my next prodigy.

My name is Professor Jay C Burns, a Detroit U. S. citizen. Teaching music, theater and drama has been my passion. My style of teaching is caring with discipline and fun. Providing for the student an optimistic atmosphere with emphasis on learning the basic fundamentals with room for creative expression.
