Bob Menzies, PGA Teaching Professional
About
My main teaching location is at an indoor & year-round facility in Birmingham, Michigan, called 4 Seasons Indoor Golf. I work with my students on specific technical aspects of their game, while utilizing the Foresight Sports GC2 launch monitors, which shows them their simulated ball flight on beautiful large simulators!
I simply love helping people improve their golf swings, and my true satisfaction comes from seeing my students succeed, like when they hit nice & solid shots!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I keep things very simple with a new/beginning golfer! We'll definitely cover key fundamentals such as the grip, posture, alignment & ball position, and I'll also use some video to compare a new/beginning student to a touring professional to show the student why proper fundamentals are essential to hitting good shots!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've been playing golf for over 40 years and have been teaching the game since 1993. I've been a Class A member of the PGA (Professional Golfers Association) since 2001. I gained tremendous knowledge of the golf swing after 5 years under the tutelage of Rick Smith at Treetops Resort in Gaylord, Michigan, and I became one of the country’s few instructors to be “Rick Smith certified.”
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I have my standard rates for single (1) lesson and also for a Series of lessons. I even offer some lesson specials during the year. More info can be found on the Coaching page of my website at https://www.bobmenzies.com/coaching.html
How did you get started teaching?
I've always been fascinated with how & why the golf ball goes & does what it does, as the result of a good or bad golf swing. Learning as much about the golf swing -- and therefore teaching the game as my career -- became a passion for me very quickly. I gave tips & lessons to my family & friends at an early age, but began teaching as a career in 1993.
What types of students have you worked with?
All types -- everyone from an absolute beginner up to touring professionals on both the PGA & LPGA Tours. More info can be found on the Clientele page of my website at https://www.bobmenzies.com/clientele.html
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Seek an instructor, like myself, who has lots of experience in teaching the game, and who also uses the latest technology like video and/or data from simulators.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
As the instructor if they teach in the area year-round, like myself. (Some instructors, especially ones in colder climates, only teach at a facility for half of the year, and then they go to a warmer climate the other half of the year).
Ask the instructor what are their hours of availability, so that you and the instructor can agree on lesson times.
