Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I have found over the years that the better the student understands the whole swing, the easier they learn their own swing.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Well, I have many, many satisfied students and have been teaching in this area longer than most. I have worked as Head Pro at a driving range. I was the Head Pro at a private course for 2 years and an assistant pro for 16. I passed the playing ability test for joining the Michigan p.g.a. on my second try, missed by 1 stroke on first try. Many players take 10 or more tries to pass. Played every sport growing up and learned most on my own which I think gives me an advantage when explaining how it feels to someone else.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Yes. Adults, $70/hour. Range balls additional. 1/2 hour available, not preferred. Discounts for long time students.
juniors; under 17, 50$ /hour. 30$ 1/2 hour. Range balls additional.
lesson packages availablefrom 3 to seasonal !! We can discuss after the first lesson.
How did you get started teaching?
Totally by accident. I was going to Jawors gratiot golf everyday to hit balls and the owner asked me if I wanted to work in the proshop selling clubs. In fitting people for clubs, I discovered I had an eye for the swing and its details which led to me convincing Mr. Jawor to let me try giving lessons. The rest is history. Have been doing it ever since. Thank you Mr. Chester Jawor.
What types of students have you worked with?
All, every. There is nothing I haven't seen. Lol
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I fixed an 82 year old mans swing last winter and he shot his age or better 3 times last summer.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
most lessons are incomplete in information and fix flaws but not fundementals. Short term band aid lessons are the norm. I teach for long term improvement, getting good and staying good. Just because someone can hit the ball, doesn't mean they can help you.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
how much will they practice and how much better do they actually want to get. A little better, not to difficult. 100+ down to 90, not hard. 85 to 78, much more involved. It is so fun to improve !! And it's not really work.
