Golf Instruction With Mike Speck
About
I am a lifetime student and teacher of the game of golf. I am convinced that the Plane Truth Golf method, understanding that great golf can be played with a one or two plane golf swing, is the single most important and effective teaching method in golf. It provides the teacher with many tools and options to help and improve the golf swing of a wide variety of students and players. In my opinion there is simply no other way to teach the golf swing.
My goal as a teacher is to maximize the potential golf ball striking ability and golf playing ability of my students.
The foundation of that statement is in recognizing that “the sole purpose of the golf swing is to produce a correct, repetitive impact and the method employed is of no significance as long as it is repetitive.” If in doubt please see Lee Trevino, Jim Furyk and others. Within that foundation is the belief that the next shot my students hit, after corrective input, will be a better golf shot. It is also my belief that the corrective input must be easily understood, applied and sustainable.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First and foremost I ask students what their goals are with respect to golf. I am very student-centric. I watch students hit golf shots and make an assessment of current skill set. I then provide input for improvement. The improvement takes place in two stages: immediate. The student will be hitting the ball better after the first lesson. Long term: I will also provide input placing the student on a path to build a permanent and repeatable golf swing.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My biggest influence in teaching the golf swing is Jim Hardy who wrote the book "The Plane Truth for Golfers" and Chris O'Connell. Both men are great teachers and both have worked with numerous Tour professionals.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I try to be competitive but fair in my lesson pricing. Sadly you can spend a lot of money and get no real benefit. I know this from personal experience.
My current lesson rates: $30/half-hour and $45/hour with the student purchasing range balls for the lesson.
How did you get started teaching?
Simply put I have taken aver a hundred lesson from various teachers over the years. These were alleged to be highly skilled (PGA) teachers. Most were not highly skilled. I knew I could do a better job.
What types of students have you worked with?
Beginners to advanced.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
The most satisifaction comes from fixing a students swing. I get to do it with every lesson I give.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
You must find a teacher who KNOWS that one swing does NOT fit all golfers. If a teacher tells you there is only one way to effectively swing a golf club...RUN! He or she is dangerous to your golf swing and mental health.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Too many to mention.
But the student must make their goals clear and the teacher must be able to articulate a plan including time and cost to meet the students goals.
