Kerry S. says, " My young son and I had the good fortune to become piano students of virtuoso concert pianist Judy Kameny. Kind, patient and versatile, she is clearly skilled at teaching all ages. Using the traditional classical teaching method, Judy not only taught us how to play the piano but instilled in us a true understanding of theory, the “bones”, so to speak, of the pieces we were playing. For an unforgettable, rewarding learning experience I highly recommend Judy. She gave my son and me the gift of music and a love of playing the piano." Read more

Learn to play and read music at your own pace with a classical pianist who has been certified by the Royal Schools of Music. Certified by the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM). Over 20 years of experience. I was born and raised in the Caribbean and began playing the piano at the tender age of 4. I started taking piano lessons at the age of 6 and participated in Young Musicians on Stage at age 9. I became more passionate about music as I grew older so I took some music courses whilst attending Rutgers University and also sang in the University choir. I will teach you the same methods of reading music and playing the piano that I've learned as

I teach not just the violin but music. I provide context. I teach some music theory and music history. I think it helps to understand what you are playing and where it came from. I have degrees in composition and music theory as well as undergraduate degrees in economics and philosophy. Also, I really emphasize sound. I think it's so important whether you're learning the violin at 6 or 60. Sound is so magical; it surrounds and stimulates us. You can feel the violin vibrate when you play it! I love the challenge of figuring out what will help different types of people understand the music and learn the instrument. Teaching both kids and adults...

My teaching approach: For "absolute beginners" I start with note reading, chord playing, proper fingering, basic music theory, and playing simple songs. Material is presented in a graded fashion so the student's learning is enhanced. For intermediate to advanced students I begin sight reading studies, advanced chord playing, scales, improvisation, theory, ear training and more complex songs. Influences include the Beatles, Led Zepplin, Chet Atkins, George Van Eps, Earth Wind and Fire, and many others. My guitar lessons take place in: The 520 Eight Avenue, NYC, or the student's home. Sofia B. says, "He was always very patient with me. I learned how to play the flute from him in our church band. I started when I was in highschool. I often had trouble with sight reading the notes so when I messed up it, It felt frustrating but each time I felt it was ok because of his patience and his focus on making sure I'd get the music down. He was always clear on the lessons and efficient even when I'd get distracted. I have ADHD and I'm often a very nervous person with anxiety, so I'd often get off track or very embarrassed from the frustration ...which made me mess up more. But often enough I didn't have to feel that way or when I did it went away fast because I didn't feel the need to rush my brain to accommodate or adjust to what I thought he would think of me. He made lessons engaging, fun and taught me a lot about how to play the flute and about music theory. Reading music paper and such is almost like learning a new language, but he made it entertaining and clear. Each lesson, I felt, was like our own little safe space to mess up as much as I did until I got the music right. It also didn't make me feel so nervous when I did mess up in a performance because I knew what he'd say. It helped with my confidence in performing and in my flute playing in general." Read more

Jason really understood my situation—a kind of writer's block about the rhythm of my lyrics. He zeroed in on the how and why of it and gave me very clear help that "unfroze" my writing. And production-wise, he's amazing.

Very good teaching. I am an experienced pianist learning violin, and Cedrick definitely knows how to teach classical violin. His teaching is very supportive and thorough in covering violin fundamental techniques and results in a lot of progress.

I am so glad we found Michelle of Take Note Lessons. We have a 5th grader and 8th grader who both actively enjoy piano lessons and are both progressing well. Michelle adapts her teaching style to fit students' personalities - we see this demonstrated weekly as our girls certainly have their individual quirks....and nothing seems to phase her! She's open and warm enough that they both feel they can talk to her and yet they quickly buckle down to work too. Strongly recommend!

As a theory teacher, Patrick Kreeger possesses the exact teaching style the subject requires. Patience, availability for questions and dedication to my desire to learn best define my experience with Patrick. It was such dedication that also made him call me out when he didn’t think I was doing my best or was making careless mistakes. Perhaps this wouldn’t be that outstanding except that Patrick did all of this long distance; he was in Philadelphia and I was in Delaware. He was timely in mailing me assignments and tests, and even more so in grading and returning them. I learned more from him in the 2 years I studied with him than I did in my last year of theory in my undergrad at music school. If you have the opportunity to study with Patrick Kreeger, consider yourself lucky. You couldn’t find better quality teaching elsewhere.”
