As a teacher/mental health specialist as well as a martial arts instructor, I specialize in training young adults, youth, and adults in self-defense and self-reliance through classical martial arts skills and meditation.
Grounded in classical martial arts, I bring a flexible, individualized approach to training each student.
I've been a martial artist for over thirty years, and have been teaching adults and youth for twenty five years.
What I enjoy most is seeing the surprise that students have when they realize their goals and start to see their own progress!
I have a deep love of my Art that only grows every time I watch a student discover their better self.

Our son has had two private lessons and his third will be tomorrow with Sensei Chris. His methods of teaching are incredible. After only a few lessons, I can see a difference with my son. He is not tied to or as dependent on his gaming systems. He wants to continue to learn karate and looks forward to his next session. Thank you Sensei Chris.
Sensei Chris invited us to his Dojo and allowed us to watch both a beginner and advanced class prior to hiring him. His teaching techniques show that a student can achieve any goal they set for themself. Respectful, professional, and in our opinion, a great teacher and mentor. We look forward to working with him.
Sensei promotes respect among the students, teaches life lessons as well as karate skills. The discipline and control learned in karate pours over into life. I am very happy with this program.
Everything. My daughter and son are in year 9 with Sensei Chris. They are learning self defense, yes, but equally an education in life, discretion and introspection. Truly a home away from home. Like having an extra parent for your kids, and one that they listen and respond to! The best. Thanks Sensei Chris
I generally spend some time with a new client evaluating their previous experience and working with them to develop goals for their training.
I believe in pairing internal practice with active training and helping students connect with "Why" as well as "How" we train to be our best selves.
I have a bachelor's degree in Psychology and twenty-five years of special education teaching experience, as well as ranks in Shotokan and Isshinryu Karate and Coung Nhu Oriental Martial Arts.
My introductory rate for one--to-one work is $55 for a combined student assessment and first lesson. Subsequent lessons are $45 per lesson.
Group lessons are available at some locations for a flexible monthly fee, depending on how many workouts per week the student attends.
Lessons can be negotiated at a block rate as well.
I first began teaching martial arts as an advanced Brown Belt in 1992 and later took over as Head Instructor of my community-based classes.
I've also partnered with Kidsafe Youth Programs to work specifically with young people in a program that combines character development, safety and self-defense and traditional Japanese martial arts.
I have extensive experience with anti-bullying work with special needs, LGBTQ, and at-risk youth which I bring to lessons that combine conditioning, meditation and solid defense skills.
