Will get you playing guitar no time. Have 13 years experience playing all types of genres from high level professional classical music to high level rock songs, to country, folk, pop etc. I was trained classically in a relatively well known local school here in Vegas, and also growing up in school took guitar class there too. I then branched out to learn more alternative styles and methods on my own time. I am very passionate about teaching and good at making sure people understand what it is they need to understand. Im very intuitive and also very attuned to the student, to help with their personal struggles for the instrument. I think I can

Your classical guitar questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.

How much do classical guitar lessons cost near me?

Most classical guitar lessons cost $35 to $70 per session for durations of 30 to 60 minutes. One-on-one lessons typically cost between $45 and $70 per hour, whereas group sessions are a more affordable option at $25 to $35 per class.

For those who prefer a digital classroom, online lessons cost $35 to $55 per hour. Monthly ongoing instruction costs $170 to $315 with a prepaid discount.

Why should I take classical guitar lessons?

You should take classical guitar lessons if you have an acoustic guitar and want to learn how to play classical concertos or Spanish-style music with fingerpicking.

Classical guitar lessons teach you how to:

  • Use nylon-string guitars and strum with the fingers instead of a pick
  • Develop your fingers to focus on complex fingerpicking techniques
  • Understand classical music theory and sight-reading

At what age should I start classical guitar lessons?

Children generally begin their classical guitar journey between the ages of 6 to 10, or as soon as they can hold the instrument well with enough hand strength to press the strings. Adults of all ages can master the instrument with the correct guidance and consistent practice.

How many classical guitar lessons do I need?

The number of weekly classical guitar lessons you need will depend on your personal goals and dedication to practice. A beginner might grasp a simple song within 2 to 6 months, but acquiring proficiency like a professional requires 4 to 10 years on average.

How do I find the best classical guitar lessons near me?

You can find proficient classical guitar tutors nearby by looking at the listings here on the Lessons platform. Sometimes teachers ara available through local music stores too.

Before hiring your tutor, always:

  • Obtain quotes from a minimum of 3 teachers and clarify what they teach.
  • Review feedback about them on Google and the Lessons site.
  • Request a reference list of their past students.
  • Ask fellow parents about their children's experiences with the tutor.
  • Secure a written agreement and schedule prior to the first session.
  • Make small initial payments to gauge the tutor's compatibility before committing to a full month.

What questions do I ask when choosing a classical guitar teacher?

Ask these pertinent questions to help you pick a classical guitar teacher:

  • Did you study music formally, and what qualifications do you have?
  • How many years have you been teaching classical guitar?
  • Could I have a trial lesson to see if your teaching method works for me?
  • What is the typical age range of your students?
  • Which model of acoustic guitar should I purchase?
  • Will you assign homework, and how much practice is required?
  • What type of strings are best for beginners?
  • Which books should I buy for learning classical guitar?
  • Can you accommodate different learning styles?
  • What essentials should I bring to class, and how long is each session?
  • Can I have a written copy of our class schedule?
  • What is your policy for missed classes?
  • Am I allowed to suggest songs that I would like to learn?

Ready Set Gig is a great place to learn how to play music. In my experience other music schools teach you either how to play your instrument or just how to play songs. But Doug and his team at Ready Set Gig are different. You get the full experience of learning how to play songs and be apart if a band as well as the music theory you need to know for mastering your instrument. Plus their music theory book is loaded with knowledge and the staff + instructors really catered to my needs as a musician. It's a great environment and you can tell when you walk in the door.

I had my first lesson today. He quickly understood what style of guitar I wanted to learn and was able to give me some relevant instruction as we created our first goals. Learned so much more in one lesson by his observation and instruction than three months with on line lessons. So far so good!!
