Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I typically try to find out what the golfer is looking to achieve.
I consider age, flexibility and take other factors into consideration. I am not an advocate of method teaching and try to work with what the student has. I utilize video, as anything visual usually helps the student understand what changes need to be made in an effort to improve. I'm a firm believer in drills in an effort to force a swing change. I try to keep a laid back style in an effort to keep the student relaxed while they allow the learning process to happen. I try to keep it interesting and fun.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've been a class A PGA teaching professional for over 30 years and have worked with many great instructors. Working and traveling with the John Jacobs Golf Schools as a head instructor was invaluable as to instructing large groups. I'm constantly learning and continue my education through programs and seminars the PGA of America offers.

How did you get started teaching?
Like most instructors I began teaching juniors and conducting group clinics early in my career. Over time as I gained more experience I worked more directly with students on a one to one basis conducting more private instruction and on- course instruction.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've been fortunate to work with a vast number of students from beginners to college and professional golfers.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
i attended the Masters a few years back. It was like walking into "GOLF HEAVEN". A fabulous experience and one tournament I plan on attending again.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find someone who communicates well and you feel comfortable with. There are a lot of instructors with a vast amount of knowledge but cannot properly convey their thoughts to their students.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Be realistic in what you want to achieve.
Like anything in life you get out of it what you put into it. Unfortunately life can get in the way. Family, your job and other things may not let you put the time in to improve at the pace you would like. Realize golf can be played your entire life. The game was meant to be played and enjoyed. It is a game that can never be perfected and the quest to improve regardless of what level you play at, is a never ending quest.
