McKenzie Music Academy is a boutique music academy in West Summerlin for very young children, ages 4 to 7. Our small group classes are a true early music education: singing, rhythm, listening, movement, music appreciation, and the pre-piano foundations that prepare a child for formal lessons later. This is not private piano instruction. It’s where a lifelong love of music actually begins. Classes meet Thursdays from 4 to 5 PM, all books and supplies are included.

I am a former Band and Orchestra teacher who now teaches piano, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and saxophone out of my home. Currently, I am a Board Member with the Las Vegas Music Teachers Association. I am a member of MTNA and NAfME. My students participate in competitions, Solo and Ensemble Festival, Honors; Band, Junior Festival, recitals, MTNA National Musicianship exam as well as many other opportunities. I started playing bass when I was 11 years old, was in several rock bands through junior high and high school, played bass in the University of Arizona, Arizona jazz band, toured Japan with the UNLV jazz band, have done extensive studio recording with various Christian rock bands, and played bass for years at my church. I picked up rhythm acoustic guitar in my early 20s and lead worship at my churches for years on acoustic guitar. I play 250+ shows a year on Fremont Street with Spandex Nation. I have played in several shows (World's Greatest Rock Show, MJ Live, Zombie Burlesque) and many bands on the strip. Using my professional experience, I teach the guitar as a whole. The ultimate goal is to be able to play any song and create the sounds you imagine in your head, and I teach how the guitar and music work, so you can get there! My lessons are custom tailored to each students needs. No two people learn exactly the same way, and your learning experience should reflect that, in a positive way!
