Tsuyoshi Niwa
About
With over 30 years as a professional jazz saxophonist, I love helping dedicated beginners and intermediate players grow with confidence. My teaching style is friendly, supportive, and clear — but also structured so you always know what to practice and how to improve.
I work best with students who are excited to learn and ready to develop steady habits. You don’t need advanced skills — just a curiosity for music and a willingness to put in consistent effort. I tailor each lesson to your goals and break down challenges into simple, achievable steps, so you see real progress week after week.
If you want relaxed, enjoyable lessons that still keep you moving forward, I’d be happy to help you build your sound, technique, and musical confidence.

I’m studying music, and Mr. Niwa is the first teacher who really made jazz improvisation make sense for me. His examples and explanations are super helpful.

I’m retired and getting back into sax after many years. Mr. Niwa’s clear explanations and patient teaching have helped me understand improvisation in a way I never did when I was younger.

Mr. Niwa helped me finally understand advanced improvisation concepts I’d been stuck on for years. His explanations are clear, practical, and immediately useful for a working musician.

We tried a couple of teachers before, but Mr. Niwa has been the first to really help our daughter understand jazz improvisation. He explains challenging concepts in a way she can grasp, and we’ve seen a big boost in her confidence.

Mr. Niwa breaks down advanced concepts to really easy words with great examples. Thanks to Mr. Niwa, I could finally understand some of the most difficult issues with jazz improvisation I had hard time with my previous teachers.
