Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Perform Titleist Performance institute assessment for all players. Provide Tour proven instruction for all aspects of the game.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a Titleist Institute Certified Level 3 Golf and Junior Level 2 instructor. I have been fortunate to train with Dave Phillips (Jon Rahm's Coach) and Mark Blackburn (Max Homa's Coach). I have also worked with James Sieckmann who is a PGA Tour/LPGA Tour short-game expert. I utilize the methods and philosophy taught at the Titleist Institute.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $80 per session which is extremely competitive in the WNY market. I have my only studio so my costs are different than many other teaching pros who work at Golf Domes or Driving ranges. It is important for players to understand they will have access to state of the art technology that other teachers just don't utilize during their sessions.
How did you get started teaching?
I got into teaching as a byproduct of coaching HS golf. I started working with elite-level juniors and referrals started to come in. My business has grown to where I do over 600 lessons each year.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with elite-level amateurs - both adults and juniors. I currently coach 3 of the Top 10 juniors in WNY golf and several college players. I also have plenty of recreational golfers from scratch to 25 handicaps.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would tell any player golf is extremely hard. Trying to fix your own swing by watching youtube is not the answer. There are plenty of great teachers on YouTube - I have worked with some of them personally. The issue is you need to first understand if your body is the issue, and then what is causing you to swing the way you do. Once the diagnosis is complete I can effectively build a roadmap.
I would also tell a player don't expect a miracle. Most players take 4-6 sessions before they see some lasting results. The investment is just that - an investment for the long term. Band-aid fixes never stick!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What is your philosophy on the swing?
What can I expect in our first session?
