Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First and formemost I like to understand the current level and goals of the student. After that, it is a matter of getting to know how the student learns best, and pushing them in new directions.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold a Jazz and Contemporary Media degree from the Eastman School of Music, Where I had worked with many of the top jazz artists of today. I have experience teaching privately, from young ages to adults. I have also had experience running a high school jazz ensemble.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Standard pricing is 35/Hr, 20/half.
How did you get started teaching?
I first started teaching in high school, when the band director approached me to help direct the afterschool jazz ensemble.
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages and experience levels.
I've worked with begginers, both child and adult, as well as advanced players and peers.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
A lot of saxophone teachers will teach the incorrect technique at first, so be careful. When I was first learning I was unfortunate to have some teachers that made some very hard to break bad habits in my playing.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What made you first want to play music, and what is your end goal? Is it a hobby, or something more important? If you know what your goals are, I can help you all the more. If you're still unsure, I'm here to help you figure it out.
