CS Horsemanship

About

Welcome to CS Horsemanship,

We provide a well-rounded education in basic horsemanship for English and Western disciplines. As an instructor, I focus on developing a strong relationship between horse and rider through a combined program that focuses on groundwork and balanced riding. The skills that students develop using this method can prepare them for a variety of disciplines and the further specification of their skills.

As a competitor, I spent most of my teens showing in western contesting with a brief foray into the hunters. Now in my twenties, I am preparing my OTTB for his debut in endurance racing and liberty competitions. Hopefully, you will see us competing during the 2021 season! Students will be welcome to travel with me to shows and races depending on age, experience, and other circumstances. I am also available to travel to shows with students for the cost of travel expenses.

*Discounts can be discussed for families with multiple children and for those who participate in 4-H or another community partner.

I have a passion for connecting people with horses! It has become my life goal to illustrate to people how animals, especially horses, can inform and elevate the human experience. I currently lack the facilities to host lessons at the farm where I keep my personal horse, but I am happy to travel to your farm or boarding facility for instruction. Achieving your dreams doesn't have to cost and arm and a leg!

Frequently asked questions

When working with a new student, I endeavor to understand the student's goals and how they work with their horse. From there, we can build a program that is suited to both the rider and the horse's needs. I also like to educate my students on the basics of Learning Theory and the differences between positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, positive punishment, and negative punishment. My training methods rely on using positive reinforcement and negative reinforcement to increase the presentation of favorable behaviors in the horse.

I have over 16 years of experience as an equestrian. During that time I have competed successfully in western contesting and low-level hunters.  I also taught equestrian summer camps, girl scout badge programs, and trail rides from the time I was 16 until I was 20. Currently, I am conditioning my OTTB for competition in endurance racing and liberty horsemanship.

As a student, I also minored in Evolutionary Studies where I received an education in animal psychology. Central to this was an understanding of Learning Theory which opened my eyes to more humane methods for animal training. In 2019, I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Northern Kentucky University, and until the COVID-19 pandemic I worked as an educator at the Cincinnati Museum Center. My work has currently been interrupted at the museum.

My lessons run $30 per hour. Discounts are available for families with multiple children, group lessons, and 4-H.

I began teaching and working at the Winton Woods Riding Center which is part of the Great Parks of Hamilton County when I was 16 years old. However, I volunteered for them from the time I was 14.

In recent years, I have been focusing on my career as a museum educator; however, the COVID-19 pandemic has put an indefinite hold on my work with the Cincinnati Museum Center. Due to this, I have decided to pursue my career with horses.

I have experience with students of varying ages and skill-sets, including disabled riders with the support of other team members.

If you are seeking a riding instructor for yourself or your child, you need to be especially careful who you choose. There are a lot of individuals out there who will claim to know what they are doing when in reality they have very little training themselves. This is dangerous. When in doubt ask for references, photos, etc.
