Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Typical I will ask a series of questions to start developing a profile of the students history and their goals. After finding out more about the student I will have them warmup and as they are warming up I start observing a starting point. I will always look at the foundation of the golf swing first, grip, setup, and alignment. Without a solid foundation there is no point in improving the swing, most instructors overlook this step. If the foundation is sound we will start with a plan on where the students swing will need to improve and I will begin formulating a game plan with drills that will help the student start in the right direction of improving their golf game!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have worked in the golf business for 25 years and 20 of those years have been teaching. I have taken courses through the PGA over the year and I have been mentored by some great instuctors (a few that have been recognized as top 100 in the US) over my years. My goal is to be a top 25 instructor and I feel that I am nearly there, but still need to continue growing as an instructor to accomplish my goal.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I do and you can check out my standard pricing system online at www.conceptgolfacademy.com. I do sometimes work with student's budgets depending on the situation.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with touring pros, college atheltes, high school and middle school athletes, occasional adult golfers from beginner to advance. I have worked with thousands of golf students and have been able to help them succed in their golf game!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
My advice is ask if they have a free consulatation so you can get to know your instructor first. Not all students and instructors are compatiable to each other so it is imprortant to find an instuctor that your personality will fit with. Too many times a student will take a lesson with an instructor and their personalities are just not meant for each other. I am never hurt when a potential student tells me that I am not a right fit for their needs. Be smart about shopping for the right instructor because if you love your instructor you will be more open to their teaching and improvement is almost guaranteed! With that said, I do offer a free 30-minute consultation for any new student on the fence with taking lessons with me.
