Don’s 27 years of teaching experience have proven successful to golfers of every level. A PGA professional since 1988, Don has mentored and taught under many of the finest teachers in the history of the game. T100_100Don is currently and recently recognized by Golf Magazine as one of the Top 100 Instructors in America. Also, he is recognized by Golf Digest as the #1 Teacher in Ohio. Don has been named the Southern Ohio PGA Teacher of the Year four times (2008,1010,2012,2013). He has learned under David Leadbetter, Mitchell Spearman, Mike Adams, the late, great Jim Flick (National PGA Teacher of Year), Mike Malaska (National PGA Teacher of Year), Martin Hall (National PGA Teacher of Year), Mike McGetrick (National PGA Teacher of Year) and the legendary Bob Ford from Oakmont CC. Much of that learning also came from the multitudes of highly skilled PGA Tour, European Tour, LPGA Tour, Web.com, and various other accomplished players Don played with, taught, observed and helped when working these jobs. Don has appeared on the Golf Channel telecast “The Turn” twice instructing. (see videos on home page) He has done instructional ”Turning Points” for both The Memorial Tournament and the Nationwide Children’s Tournament (then the Nationwide Tour). His personal study of golf has grown through his real life experiences of playing, observing, teaching and tournament caddying. Mixing these experiences with his many World Class golf influences, have given Don a indiscriminate number of proven methods to achieve success for his pupils. Sarge’s own students have won at every phase of competetive golf. These successes include Professionals, Amateurs, Collegiate and Junior players. He has also succeeded as the instructor to both male and female golfers. Some accomplishments of Don’s pupils include 4 Masters Tournament appearances, 4 USGA National titles, 1 Web.com Title, 1 NGA Hooters Title, three Walker Cup appearances, State Amateur Championships, assorted Collegiate victories and all conference players for both men and women. AJGA titles and high AJGA rankings have been achieved. Lastly, several State High School Championships have been won for both boys and girls. Many of Don’s Junior students, through the years, have gone on to receive college scholarships at all different levels and play collegiately all over the nation.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
In the winter I do primarily 30 minute lessons because of weather. I use TRACKMAN which helps analysis while allowing the ability to email the suggested prognosis to the student. I also use the necessary learning aids to create results and expedite learning.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
i am a PGA Member, a Member of Golf Magazine Top 100 Teachers in America and have been employed and trained by several of Golf's Greatest Teachers ever. I've have seen and assisted my mentors teach many of the games greatest players over the last 60+ years. Personally, I have studied golf, and all of its facets, for the whole of my life.

How did you get started teaching?
I learned the game as a toddler and frankly is all I have studied for the whole of my life. I joined the PGA of America when my playing career ended. I've now been teaching for over 30 years.
What types of students have you worked with?
Every level from beginning golfers to PGA Tour players. Male, female, Senior, Junior, tournament and social golfers.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I enjoy watching the Major Golf events, specifically The Masters and The British Open. I love the history and traditions of these events and the game.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
The ability to have fun 1st!! Then the ability to communicate, understand and apply the suggestions. As these requirements are met learning becomes simple, quick enjoyable.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What they need to improve personally, where their weaknesses and strengths are.
