Beginner photography classes typically teach basic camera skills and techniques, including:
- The exposure triangle—aperture, shutter speed, and ISO—and how each setting affects the motion, depth of focus, and noise (graininess) in your images
- Light and how it affects your photos
- Composition techniques such as the Rule of Thirds and leading lines
- Color, shape, and texture
- White balance
- How specific lenses and filters affect your photos
Intermediate and advanced classes usually focus on a specific type of photography, such as landscape photography, portrait photography, street photography, or sports photography. Some advanced classes help you hone your skills in a particular area, such as posing subjects for wedding photography, using indoor studio lighting, or using a green screen.
Advanced photography classes may also teach post-processing techniques in Photoshop, Lightroom, or other similar photo editing programs. Post-processing techniques include color correction, retouching, adjusting contrast and sharpness, and more.
