I am a classically trained Opera singer. I have been teaching for 20 years. My students have come from all backgrounds of musical genres and all ages. My specialty is helping students develop good singing habits and become comfortable performing in the style they prefer. I encourage the student to bring in their choice of music as well as offering music in which I am familiar to teach them proper technique but not force them into a certain singing style. I love to help my students learn how to use their voices and develop confidence in singing what makes them happy....

Learning to play an instrument involves practicing. Wow, what a stupid sounding statement. Practicing is only marginally profitable unless you know “how” to practice. I could tell you right here, in a few words, how to practice and you might say, “ Well, of course, anyone would know that.” The problem is, knowing and doing it two different things. I like to ask a new player, “What are you hoping to song or melody are you hoping to learn to play?” For me, this way of learning an instrument is a lot more fun than playing scales and arpeggios for years, in hopes to someday being able I to play some of the stuff really want. Your Online Singing Lessons questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.

How much do online singing lessons cost?

Online singing lessons cost $20 to $75 per session on average for private, live, one-on-one lessons. Prices vary depending on the teacher's location, experience, reputation, and whether you're purchasing one or multiple lessons at a time. Online singing lessons typically last 30, 45, or 60 minutes.

Some online singing lesson platforms offer memberships for $150 to $450 per month, with weekly lessons and group rehearsals to develop confidence. Less expensive monthly memberships that include only pre-recorded lessons are available on some platforms.

Are online singing lessons worth it?

Online singing lessons can be just as effective as in-person singing lessons, provided they are live lessons where the vocal teacher can listen to you and provide real-time feedback and coaching based on your current performance level. Pre-recorded online singing lessons may be worth it to learn some techniques, but they lack the personalized coaching of a live lesson.

How do online singing lessons work?

The process of taking online singing lessons varies depending on the singing teacher and the technology they are using to give the lessons. Some teachers use Zoom or Facetime, while others give lessons through a dedicated app or website. You can typically use any device with a webcam that connects to the internet—a PC, laptop, tablet, or cell phone—to take online singing lessons. Investing in a good microphone may also be helpful.

What do singing lessons teach you?

Singing lessons, both online and in person, involve more than just your voice. A singing coach will teach you how to hold and improve your posture, which gives your diaphragm optimal room to expand. You also learn proper breathing techniques and how to use your breath to improve your vocal tone. Singing lessons also help you improve your diction—the way you articulate your words when singing—as well as your ability to match a specific pitch.

Can adults take singing lessons?

Yes, you can take singing lessons at any age. While beginning singing lessons while you're young gives you more time to develop, it's never too late to begin learning and improve your singing voice.

How do I choose the best online singing lessons?

Follow these guidelines to help you choose the best online singing lessons:

  • Check out their reviews on Lessons.com and Google.
  • Get at least three estimates from teachers with similar credentials.
  • Do a trial lesson, if possible, with several teachers to find the best fit for your goals and needs.
  • Ask them about their credentials, training, and what styles of music they teach.
  • Ask about what specific methods and techniques they teach.
  • Ask about the specific progress they've made with other students.
  • Make sure their schedule matches your availability.

What questions should I ask when choosing an online singing lesson platform?

Ask these questions to help you choose the best online singing lessons for you:

  • Are your instructors qualified?
  • Will I have the same instructor for every lesson?
  • What styles of music do you teach?
  • Can you share any success stories?
  • Do I need to have a good voice already to become a better singer?
  • How long does it typically take to see improvement?
  • Do you offer any package deals?
  • What is your teaching schedule?
  • How long are your singing lessons?
  • How often should I practice?
  • Do you offer private or group lessons?

I first picked up a guitar when I was 14. Ever since I first started with Francisco he was informative, patient, and energetic. His willingness to meet me where I was at in my musical journey at the time made me want to push myself harder and find success. Francisco worked with me to find songs that I liked that also helped me learn more about music and understand the process each step of the way. I highly recommend Francisco Rojas as a guitar and vocal teacher!
