Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Learning is the key. I teach movement in the classroom, and when I'm with clients. My goal for each client: I want them to be able to write their own program within a year. I want them to understand what I teach so well, That they only come back when they have questions!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm a chiropractor, coach, and college professor. I understand movement to a greater degree than the average personal trainer. I also teach personal training certifacation classes.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Generally I charge $50-$100, but it depends on what we're doing, and where we do it. I also offer long-term plans that cut those prices significantly. Basically, I want people to understand that long-term adherence to the plan is better than spending just one month working together.
How did you get started teaching?
I enjoy it, and I'm very good at it. I shadowed trainers and doctors in the field, then pursued it myself!
What types of students have you worked with?
I've trained patients after car accidents, general pain patients, mothers who just gave birth, and everyday athletes, to include Olympic hopefuls and All-Americans.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I love preventing pain. So, my favorite event is a long-term case. My client was training with me for 1 year before I moved locations. Due to scheduling constraints and proximity, the client chose to work with two other trainers before returning to me! The other trainers didn't take the time to understand my client's needs and actually ended up making the problem worse. Now, we're going on 4-5 years!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Communicate! Ask questions and make sure they're a good fit. If they want to train you day one, run! You need to be assessed so we can set a baseline!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
You really need understand what you want and what your end goal will be. Communicating that to an instructor is imperative if you’re lucky enough to find somebody who will individualize your plan.
