Kari OBrien Dressage
About
I've been riding horses all my life! I've been through the ups and downs so I get it. I am currently working under a silver USDF medalist as well as teach under a robust student program, so I am constantly training myself. I focus on dressage and flat work. My priorities are safety first then fun then challenge to where you want to go. I am also a mother of two girls...so can relate to all the mothers who have crazy horse kids (or the mother who just wants to get away!) Hope to eventually specialize in therapy as working with horses is fantastic for confidence building. I offer a schoolmaster at my house or I can come teach on your horse. References available.
Getting outside, enjoying fresh air, meeting new people - all while being around horses. I also enjoy getting to see new students learn something new and build confidence!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I'd like to discuss goals. My first priority is safety and I like to build confidence but I also want you to have fun and then see where you want to go. I can challenge you as much or as little as you want but let's just come and enjoy riding together!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I work and train under a USDF silver medalist and certified trainer. I regularly audit and ride in clinics. I enjoy scribing at dressage shows/combined training events as it helps me to learn what judges are looking for in both the horse and rider.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
First lesson is complimentary of me as I like to use that time to get to know each other and discuss goals, as well as to meet mine or your horse!
How did you get started teaching?
I was able to go down to part time in my business job this past year so I started working underneath my trainer. I have had adult friends always ask me about giving them lessons, and at the same time my trainer got me connected with a robust lesson program where I started teaching both kids and adults.
What types of students have you worked with?
Kids, teens, adults, seniors; special needs.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Safety should be the priority - then fun!!! Then challenge to where you want to go. I have had too many instructors growing up that took things a little too seriously and it caused me to dread riding. Unless you have the desire to go that route with your goals it's not worth your money your time and your mental state. Also look for someone you can relate to because you develop relationships in the horse world - and some can be very long lasting!!
