S C. says, "I've really enjoyed lessons with Simon. I'm amazed how he can discover my problems quickly, even in a virtual setting. He's great at explaining the importance of focusing on these areas and his tailors his explanation to a beginner like me, making it easy to understand and motivate me to learn more. I like that he has a holistic approach to the lesson that is not just piano techniques but includes a digestible amount of music theory to improve my understanding of the music I'm playing. Reviews for Philadelphia classical piano lessons

Recent success stories from people in the Philadelphia area.
Ted E.
When I was in college, a much respected pianist filled in for my usual professor, a Tchaikovsky medalist filled with a great deal of pianistic fire and very little knowledge about pedagogy. At the end of our first lesson he said, “Oh, you’re the one who asks ‘why’. Your teacher warned me.” I asked “But isn’t that a good thing?” and he said “That wasn’t my impression.” Katelyn on the other hand, is the perfect teacher for people who want to know not only what to do, but why (including detailed explanations for the instruments and teaching practices of any given era or composer) and how (providing specific exercises to actually accomplish it). Our discussions of learning processes haven’t just improved my approach to practicing but has also carried over somewhat into my own teaching as a writing instruction. The lessons have always given me something to look forward to.

For context, I started playing piano around age 11, and now as an adult I am working with Simon to improve my playing. I really appreciate Simon’s creative yet rigorous teaching style. He tailors his teaching to address the goals I have communicated while using his professional acumen to see all the technical improvements I need to make. He immediately comes up with exercises and pieces that can help me to address a bad habit or to understand a technical concept that I am struggling with. I definitely recommend Simon as a piano teacher.

My kids started taking piano lessons with Kathryn a couple years ago. They have different learning styles and were at different levels but Kathryn could identify what they need to work on and engage them quickly. We observed noticeable improvement in their skills and sight reading after just a few weeks. The online piano and theory lessons are equally engaging and my kids are enjoying the classes as usual and showing amazing progress.
