Madison G. says, "I so enjoy my weekly lesson with Margot! My guitar lesson is my checkpoint for the week, tbh. Margot really cares about my progress and works hard to make sure I understand the content of that week's lesson. She is truly one of the best teachers I've ever had and she consistently goes above and beyond. The way she teaches and frames the material is really unique. I'm not just learning chords. I'm finally getting an understanding of the actual DNA of the chords I've been playing since the beginning. All that to say - Margot is awesome and I am extremely excited about the progress I'm making!!" Read more

Hey there! My name's Jason and I'm here to teach you about guitar and music. I love teaching people of all ages, and 5 years of giving guitar lessons has taught me that everyone learns through different methods and at different paces. As someone who's been both self taught on the guitar, and had a handful of teachers over the past 9 years, I can bring a wide variety of personal and learned insights from my time with the guitar and my various students. I'm a recent college graduate, with a minor in jazz studies and am currently a gigging musician in Nashville. I play both acoustic and electric guitar, sing, dabble in piano and love rock, blues

Reese P. says, "Erik was my guitar teacher growing up and through high school and taught music in such a fun and effective way. I remember he would always start the lessons off by asking what I wanted to learn and would somehow find ways to connect important elements of theory into whatever I wanted to learn that day. I am about to graduate Berklee College of Music and would have never even gotten in if it weren't for Erik! Absolutely the best guitar teacher out there." Read more

I've had a passion for teaching music since 2004. I mostly teach guitar, but I've also taught ukulele, mandolin, bass, music theory, song writing & beginner piano and drums locally for the last 11 years. I ran a successful lesson program from a music shop in Nashville during that time, however, the shop closed down earlier this year. This has allowed me to go independent while retaining my original student load. Things have settled since then and I'm ready to take on new students! I offer in person or virtual lessons, what ever is most convenient for you. I also make many of my own resource handouts available to all students so you won'

Karl R. says, "I have been taking guitar lessons with Ryan at Supertonic Guitar for about four months and I can say that my guitar playing and understanding has improved more than I thought possible. I took lessons many years ago and was frustrated that my instructor was teaching me stuff I didn't care to learn. They didn't have a real plan and they were showing me what they wanted to play, not what I wanted and as a result I lost interest. I really didn't know what to practice or even how to practice and as a result I stopped playing. Fast forward to over 20 years later and lessons at Supertonic Guitar. I have learned more about the guitar, how to play it, and music theory in the past four months than in all the previous years of lessons I've had. Ryan has taken the kind of music I enjoy and want to learn into his lesson plan for me and it makes it so much more fun to learn. It motivates me to play and I come out of just about every lesson with new knowledge and I am eager to apply it and practice it. In the past, I would play a couple times a week when I felt like it; now I look forward to picking up my guitar and practicing every day and as a result I get better and am closer to accomplishing my goals as a guitar player. The jam nights that Ryan organizes are awesome and so much fun. I learn a great deal by playing with other guitarists of different levels from beginner to very experienced. I highly recommend Ryan and Supertonic Guitar if you have any interest at all in learning guitar. He will help you to improve and learn in a way that will make it fun and challenging." Read more

Your Blues Guitar questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.com.

How much do blues guitar lessons cost near me?

Blues guitar lessons cost $35 to $70 per session and last anywhere from half an hour to an hour. Private classes cost $45 to $70 per hour. For those who prefer camaraderie, group lessons cost $25 to $35 per session.

  • For committed learners, a monthly plan of ongoing lessons costs $170 to $315.
  • Alternatively, virtual lessons are available for$35 to $55 per hour, making musical education accessible to all.

Are blues guitar lessons worth it?

Blues guitar lessons are worth it to play blues guitar because the structured and custom-tailored teaching approach accelerates progress while enhancing technique. Self-learning, while possible, is a longer road laden with the risk of cultivating bad habits.

A blues guitar teacher will show you the essentials like:

  • How to emphasize playing on expressively
  • Ways to get confident improvising with a jazz band
  • Mastering the 12-bar blues progression and blues scales
  • Learning unique techniques like string bending, slides, and vibrato

What age is best to start blues guitar lessons?

Children can start blues guitar lessons between the ages of 6 to 10 years old at the earliest. The best time is whenever they can hold the instrument easily and have the hand strength to press on the strings.

Adults of all ages can learn to play blues guitar with the right instruction and regular practice.

How many blues guitar lessons do I need?

The number of blues guitar lessons you need all depends on what you're aiming for and how long you practice. Beginners typically learn how to play a simple song in 2 to 6 months on average. However, mastering blues guitar takes at least 4 to 10 years.

How do I find the best blues guitar lessons near me?

If you want to find the best blues guitar lessons for you, then look at teachers nearby on the Lessons website. You can also check out guitar lessons at your local music shops. Before you choose a guitar teacher, remember to do these things:

  • Check prices from 3 different teachers and ask what they'll teach you.
  • Read what others said about them on Google and on the Lessons website.
  • Ask for a list of other people they've taught to see if they're good.
  • For kids, ask other moms and dads what their kids say about the teacher.
  • Get a plan on paper about when your lessons will be before you start.
  • Pay a little at first to see if you like the teacher before you pay for a whole month.

What questions do I ask when choosing a blues guitar teacher?

To find the best guitar teacher, you could ask these questions:

  • What type of music degree do you have?
  • How long have you been teaching blues guitar?
  • Can I have one lesson for free to see how I like it?
  • What are the ages of most of your students?
  • Which kind of blues guitar and equipment should I buy to practice with?
  • Will you give me some finger patterns to practice at home?
  • How much should I practice at home between lessons?
  • What books should I get, and do you know where I could find used ones?
  • How many different blues guitar techniques can you teach?
  • If I'm struggling with learning, can you change the way you teach me?
  • What should I bring to class, and how long is each lesson?
  • Can I have a copy of our class plan, agreement, and how much it costs?
  • If I have an urgent problem and need to cancel, what happens?
  • Can I choose some songs that I want to learn?

I am an older middle-aged individual who recently took an interest in wanting to learn how to play a guitar. Attempting to learn on my own at my age is very limiting. However, finding an instructor who understands age as it relates to effective learning is also very challenging. Fortunately I was referred to Erik. He not only has decades of guitar playing and teaching experience, but he understands how to assess a student's learning ability and subsequently build a teaching methodology geared for that student. In other words, he uses a "student first" approach: listen to and understand what the student's particular guitar interests and abilities are. Then he'll use his own skills and knowledge to "shape" the student's guitar skills based on what the student is most interested in. Erik is very patient and has a great sense of humor. Both qualities are a must for my limited skill level. He provides the appropriate amount of the music theory to help me better understand the music that I'm attempting to play. To sum it up, whether you are a beginner, intermediate or more advanced, Erik can work with you to refine your guitar playing skills. At the very least, give him a call to discuss your particular guitar playing situation. -Steve

I've been a student for a few years now and my guitar playing has improved tremendously. Before lessons, I touched my guitar once in a blue moon. Now I get restless if I go a few days without playing. I have learned a lot about the fretboard and music theory, which has given me the confidence to not only learn more songs, but try things beyond what's written in the tabs, as well as learn songs by ear and try out improvising and soloing. It's clear that Ryan is passionate about teaching guitar, and I appreciate that he encourages me to step out of my comfort zone. I recommend taking lessons if you want to hold yourself accountable and gain a deeper understanding of guitar.

Shane is an excellent teacher. I have taken guitar off and on since I was a teenager. I must say he is one of the best teachers I have had. He is extremely knowledgeable about the guitar and music in general and he shares that knowledge with his students. I appreciate that he is very professional and works patiently with me. I highly recommend him for any age person that has a desire to learn how to play the guitar!

My two sons took piano and guitar lessons from Mobile Music Academy over a period of eight years. During this time the teachers cultivated interest and willingness to work in my students. We took lessons this long because the boys wanted to keep doing so which told me that this was a good use of our resources. That the teacher would come to us made it so much easier to manage. Neither boy is a concert pianist or the like now, but both know that to succeed one needs to keep on practising. This is the gift of MMA to us. There was nothing in this arrangement that did not work for us.

Joel is an amazing guitar instructor. After the first lesson, he will determine your skill level. Once he learns your music goals, he will craft an instructional program to meet those goals which is challenging enough to keep you interested, but within your skill set to not discourage. Joel is by far the best instructor I have ever had.
