I have known Shannon Slyfield for more than 35 years. She is the consummate professional. A wonderful, caring and encouraging trainer that can take a horse and/or rider from total beginner to Grand Prix Show Jumping. She is well known and well respected and is a licensed hunter judge. She is the first person to whom I refer people who want to ride hunters or jumpers.

Shannon was instrumental in the purchase of our competition horse. He is the absolute perfect fit for my daughter and has brought her to higher levels of competition, bringing home numerous Champion ribbons. Shannon was honest, dependable and has a true love and passion for her horses.
Shannon is knowledgable in the show circuit, teaching kids how to prepare horses and ride to their fullest abilities. She also is prepared to travel long distances for showing and has the correct criteria for keeping the horses healthy during that process.

    Frequently asked questions

I always like to talk with the student first and see what their goals and aspirations they would like to accomplish  in their riding career .
I then set certain small steps we need to work on with the rider and the horse to reach their goals. I explain the steps and practice we need to do in order for them to get to the desire goal they want to attain in their riding . I will work with them for at least 45 minutes to an hour to obtain improvement in the area we are working on in the lesson. I will continue the lesson if we need more time.

I have trained students and horses for 25 years to the highest standards of National and Premier AA horse shows in all divisions including Green to rated hunters . USHJA National and International Derbies .
I have competed in Meter jumper classes with young jumpers up to National Grand Prixs 1.45-50 competitions .Imported successful hunters/jumpers and recently received my USEF "r" judging license.

Yes.   I do charge a traveling fee depending on mileage to the farm.  I charge 100.00 for a private and can do a package for more lessons and group lessons. Pricing upon request .
I can be available for coaching at local and Texas Horse Shows. Pricing can be discussed with a client prior to horse showing.
    Also available for clinics .

I began teaching very young . I was beginning college and my instructor at the time asked me to help ride and teach at their farm.  After I finished college I was asked to ride and teach and never stopped .

I have worked with students that just began riding up to Junior riders riding in the 3'6 hunter division and Low/ High Junior jumpers up to 1.40. I have had students qualify for the  Junior Finals and also Young Riders in the Jumper Division.

I found a 5 year old young hunter in Europe and at his first horse show ever , he was Champion at the  Pin Oak Charity Horse Show  This division was the 3' foot Green Hunter Division with 30 plus quality horses and riders.

I would advise talking to a few instructors and see if one instructor/trainer may be the best fit for you and your horse.

I ask my students what there goals with their riding and the horse they own.
Students can think about what they need improvement and also their horse.
They can ask ,what an instructor may do ( exercises, practice and to improve .
