Lake Lavon Stables
About
My goal is to create great horsemen/horsewomen and competent riders who can enjoy a lifetime of equestrian pursuits as true partners with their equine partner.
Basic horsemanship is the foundation for all future pursuits, whether English, Western, competition, trail riding, cattle work, etc..
My background is hunter/jumper, dressage and eventing. I competed for years, but stopped to raise 3 kids.
Since, I've expanded my experience into trail riding, working cattle, and endurance riding.
Discovered what is commonly misnomered as "natural horsemanship" 15 years ago and have been riding in clinics with some of the top horsemen since - learning as fast as I can! I love sharing what I have learned from all the great horsemen I have had the privilege to learn from.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start with safety first, how to stay safe on the ground and in the saddle.
Then I work on balance in the saddle created through body positioning.
Then I teach the student how to control the horses body parts.
Once there is a basic competence level at slower gaits, we start trotting and learning about posting and diagonals.
The canter comes after the student has good balance and control at the trot.
Students will start to learn turn on the haunches, turn on the forehand, leg yeilding, side passing at the walk starting the second lesson.
