MacDonald Dressage
About
MacDonald Dressage Is a boutique lesson and training barn, offering safe individual lessons to produce thinking confident riders.
USDF silver medalist Alison MacDonald teaches a dressage based philosophy to riders from all backgrounds, from beginner to Western to competitive dressage riders. Our goal is to improve the riders communication to their horse for a more athletic and sympathetic partnership. We firmly believe that all horses and riders benefit from dressage, no matter where their equitation journey takes them.
We do have a select number of lesson horses available, for limited rides during the week. Our goal is to have happy healthy working horses, so our horses comfort is paramount.
Haul-ins are welcome. We also have limited training and boarding opportunities for those with their own horses.
I enjoy seeing the change in horse and rider as they learn to communicate effectively and subtly. Dressage creates a more graceful and effective partnership between horse and rider leading to happier healthier horses and a more peaceful and rewarding ride together.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I invite all new students out for a free barn tour, where they get to meet me the horses and see the facility. I want all riders to be comfortable before getting on hours.
New riders spend their 1st lesson learning how to groom and handle a horse. I doTeach all riders how to tack up their own horses as being able to handle your own horse is an important step in horsemanship. All riders must have long pants, a helmet, and close toed riding boots
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Alison Macdonald is a USDF silver medalist for achievement at national level Dressage Shows from training level through Intermediare II. Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Lesson start at $65 per 45 minutes. Mileage rates apply for all off site lessons
What types of students have you worked with?
We teach students of all ages, 6 and up. It is important for everyone's safety that the student is able to focus for the whole lesson, so while some kids are ready for instruction at 6, often 8 is a better age to begin riding.
Students of all abilities are welcome, from beginners and adult reriders to active competitors.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for happy healthy horses and an emphasis on safety. Helmets are a must! And a horse and rider mismatch can result in fear.
