About
I have been teaching for 37 years with great success with students who have gone as far as the PGA Tour to students who are very beginners. This includes a PGA Golf career spanning thousands of students, coaching at two division I universities in the NCAA, to clinics of all levels, travel academies, junior golf, womens golf, mens golf and much more. I truly give the student an understanding of what happens with the golf swing and entire game.
I have been a golf professional for 37 years now. I thoroughly enjoy working with people and during this time I have built tremendous relationships with my students at all levels. The greatest teacher ever was Harvey Penick. He taught golf for 75 years. I tell everyone I have 38 years to go. This game is not as complicated as it might seem. When my students succeed, I get tremendous gratification. What a truly great game this is and all people can play. It is wonderful to be a part of it!!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I have a great time with all of my students and begin with filming them before giving them the lesson. This way the student can see after the lesson what I am looking at and how it applies to them. After this there are several diffferent avenues and programs the student can follow if desired. It has worked well for me for many years. Guaranteed improvement will follow. Throughout the lesson I also take the time to start getting to know the student and what they desire to accomplish.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Education includes a college degree plus being a PGA Professional since 1983 and teaching since 1979. Having worked with the full range of students from beginners to the PGA Tour, my knowledge of the swing and game is extensive. This includes PGA certification, many local and national seminars and college coaching at two division I NCAA universities.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
For just an individual lesson I charge $65 per half hour and $120 per hour. Should the student decide to continue with lessons they can do the 3-hour package for $285(6 half-hour) and the 6-hour(12 half-hour) package for $550. This brings the rate way down. I also have 4-day golf academies, junior rates, group rates and more. Please call 301-602-0082 for details.
How did you get started teaching?
I have been learning this game myself since 1970. Having played high school golf and college golf, I went in to the golf business upon graduating from college. My teaching is a culmination of knowledge, experience, hard work, dedication to and from great PGA Professionals I have served and worked with. My approach really works well.
What types of students have you worked with?
I am great with all students at different levels of abilities. This includes from the very beginning student and introducing golf through the school systems to thousands of children, to the most advanced at the college and professional levels. I have many students who currently are ranked high for their efforts in Golf. Life is fun and this game is about people. As in the great teacher Harvey Penick's perspective, if you play golf you are my friend.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Many events, two that stand out. Firstly, the National Teaching and Coaching summit which includes many of the greatest teachers in the world with their personalities and methods, a wonderful event. Secondly was having the honor an priviledge to attend the Congressional Golf Medal ceremony for Arnold Palmer, one of my boyhood heroes. A true champion that brought so much to the game of golf.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
You will improve. Look for someone who takes the time in having a genuine interest in your success and who helps you fullfill your enjoyment of the game. A true professional takes you goals and interests as the number one priority. It is the best way to provide you good service and a healthy learning environment. We are in this together.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
How relatable am I to that teacher / will he be dedicated to my game / is he truly qualified to teach this game. PGA Professionals give their lives to this game. They are more than just teachers. It is a long process of work and dedication.
