About
Several qualities make me an asset in an equestrian environment. I possess a deep passion for horses and a genuine desire to share this passion with others. I have been riding since I was five years old and have been fortunate to own my horse for the past four years. I have competed successfully at A-rated shows nationwide, from the 3'3" children's hunters at Tryon to the low children's jumper classic at Upperville. These diverse experiences and my work on a rural cattle ranch in Charlotte, Vermont, have given me a broad range of skills in handling various animals, including goats and pigs.
While I have been around and worked with horses my whole life, my official equestrian job experience started when I worked as a working student/barn hand at a competitive show stable in Bluemont, VA. My responsibilities included tacking and untacking horses, exercising sale horses, ensuring the stable's upkeep, and much more. My role required meticulous attention to detail and a strong understanding of equestrian practices. After I gained experience, I started instructing beginner lessons.
I had a blast being an instructor, as I love working with children and animals. I gave lessons to kids aged 6 to 13. My enthusiasm for teaching is infectious, and I approached each lesson with excitement and dedication. I possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills essential for working with people and horses. I am patient and empathetic, tailoring my teaching methods to suit each student's individual needs and abilities. Whether teaching the basics of leading and grooming or guiding riders through advanced techniques, I ensure everyone feels supported and encouraged.
In the saddle, I am adept at teaching the fundamentals of riding, focusing on proper position, balance, and communication with the horse. I create a supportive environment where students feel confident and secure as they progress from the walk and trot to the canter and jump. My emphasis on flatwork builds a strong foundation for success in various equestrian disciplines. As riders advance, I introduce them to jumping, starting with introductory courses up to 2'6". I teach them how to confidently approach a jump, maintaining a steady pace and balance throughout the course. I emphasize the importance of flatwork in building strength, flexibility, and responsiveness in horse and rider, laying the groundwork for success in jumping and other equestrian disciplines.
Another Unique experience I had was working at a cattle ranch last summer. During my time in Vermont, I was primarily responsible for moving cattle to different paddocks. This task required effective use of horseback riding and ATVs to ensure smooth and efficient movement of the herd. Beyond cattle, my duties included feeding various animals, including horses and pigs. When not directly engaged with animal care, I focused on maintaining the farm's infrastructure by repairing fences and transporting feed. Additionally, I performed basic first aid when needed, both for animals and people. This role provided comprehensive experience in animal husbandry and farm maintenance, requiring a blend of physical labor, practical problem-solving skills, and emergency response.
These diverse experiences have equipped me with a comprehensive skill set and understanding of animal care and farm management. My dedication, passion, and proven track record in equestrian and agricultural settings make me a valuable asset to any stable.
