Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I always start with an evaluation lesson on one of my shoolmasters which allows me to get a very good idea of how a new student rides and what their level of knowledge is both on the horse and on the ground. I develop a lesson plan for them which includes what horses may help them the most and which support their riding goals.
Lesson emphasize flat work and developing stronger riding positions. Jumping builds on the flat work.
Lessons are private, semi-privates or small group. Group lessons generally have a maximum of 4 riders in a class. We emphasize a lot of personal attention to riders, so keep groups small to enforce that philosophy.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Since I've ridden with many well-known and Olympic riders over the course of my over 50 year involvement with riding and training horses I have a wealth of knowledge to draw from in teaching and training. In addition, I judge numerous shows every year which gives me an eye for what wins in the show ring.
