I studied classical piano for 10 years and have a minor in music from Carroll University. I studied piano & music theory with Ray Santisi. Ray was an instructor at the Berklee School of Music in Boston. I played piano in the Lobby Bar of the Pfister Hotel for over 25 years. In 2020, the Pfister cut back on their entertainment due to the Covid. I have also played for Royal Caribbean Ships and other cruise lines. I only teach 1-hour lessons. However, the lessons can be EVERY WEEK OR EVERY OTHER WEEK. I only teach students that are 18 or older. My schedule is quite flexible as day of the week and time of day. Pat K. says, "I had not played the piano for many, many years. Dr Iacob has incredibly patience and I learn new things every lesson. He understands and encourages me to meet my goals. At first I thought Dr. Iacob was too qualified to teach a senior citizen such as myself, and I wasn’t sure he would be right for me. I am happy to say I was mistaken and I look forward to ever lesson. " Read more

His application of Italian bel-canto principles, as well as his natural exercises of the hands and wrists, has broadened my technique in indescribable ways. Just by watching his hands play the keyboard, I can apply his principles to create an incredible interpretation from a technical and interpretive standpoint." Read more

I aim to connect with people and push them to express themselves through music. Piano lessons with me allow you to explore your intererests past reading notes and rhythms. Student learning is reinforced through flaschcards, puzzles, and recorded videos to assist with practice outside of lessons. Connecting with people in a one-on-one hands-on setting is my greatest joy from music. Music can bring out many emotions that can make you feel happy, sad, energized, or relieved. These emotions can relieve stress, improve mood, and provide an escape when everything seems to go wrong....

What are classical piano lessons?

Classical piano lessons teach you the traditional playing style of music written by composers like Mozart and Beethoven. You'll also learn important techniques and how to read sheet music of classical arrangements.

How long must you take piano lessons to play classical?

You must take piano lessons for 1 to 2 years with consistent practice to play simple classical pieces. Some people can make faster progress if they practice more often or have prior musical experience.

How long are classical piano lessons?

Classical piano lessons are 30 to 60 minutes long on average. The amount of time varies according to the teacher's style and the abilities of the student.

How do I find the best classical piano lessons near me?

Find classical piano lessons from private instructors by looking through the listings here on the Lessons website. Local music schools sometimes offer virtual lessons online as well.

Prior to hiring a local piano instructor, you should always:

  • Secure a minimum of 3 lesson cost estimates to get a clear comparison.
  • Read their ratings on sites such as Lessons and Google.
  • Talk to students on their references list.
  • Collect a written agreement and a lesson timeline before lessons begin.
  • Wait until after your preliminary sessions to start pre-booking for a month of lessons.

What question do I ask when choosing classical piano lessons?

When you're searching for a piano teacher, be sure to ask these questions:

  • How many years have you been teaching piano?
  • What is your formal music education background?
  • Which classical music composers are your favorites?
  • What is the typical age range of your students?
  • Do you offer a trial lesson, either for free or at a discounted rate?
  • If I don't have a piano, what type of keyboard should I get for practicing?
  • How much practice should I be doing outside of our lessons?
  • What textbooks do I need, and what's their cost?
  • Do you give assignments or pieces to memorize after each lesson?
  • Can you adapt your teaching style based on the individual student's needs?
  • What should I bring with me to our lessons?
  • How many different piano genres and styles can you teach?
  • Can I get a written copy of our agreement and the payment terms?
  • What is your policy for cancelling a lesson?
  • Will I be able to choose some of my own favorite songs to learn?

Carl is an amazing talent. I'm a Senior that wanted to learn Piano. When I was a Child I had taken private music lessons for playing the Organ. I returned to music a few years ago after buying a Piano and discovered that this wasn't so easy. I decided I need to take some lessons. At first it was difficult for me to play without being nervous "Stage Fright" at my lessons. How do you learn if you don't play your lessons in front of your instructor? Well Carl's easy going encouragement got me on track. Just under a year with taking lessons from Carl, I have gotten much more comfortable and confident. Through Carl's encouragement I have gotten involved with a Piano Club that also built my confidence to play for an audience. I have worked through numerous songs from Classical to Jazz and some old Rock n Roll. Carl has taught me how to study a new piece with many tools from within Music Theory. I highly recommend Carl for a Piano instructor for anyone from childhood to older adults like myself. Scott P.

Ms. Jennifer did a wonderful job with my two daughters, ages 8 and 7. In the short few months they had with Jennifer I feel they had amazing progress. Additionally she is very accommodating to any concerns we may have brought to her. She always keeps us up to date on their progress and what they need to focus on. I would have continued to keep my girls with her for the long term but sadly we are moving out of state. I would highly recommend her!
