Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Start by looking at their overall game through discussion as well as watching their swing. Talk about getting better. Talk about aspects of their game that give them fits. Start at the putter and work our way back to the tee box.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
No formal training. I've played the game for 50 years at high levels and understand what it takes to get better. I am self taught (maybe had 5 lessons in my life) but understand that perfect practice makes perfect.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I want to get paid but make it affordable for the student. I have paid as much as $100 per hour for lessons. That's too much for the average player.
How did you get started teaching?
Took the game up at an early age (13) and have played to a 3 handicap (high school). Started working with friends and eventually my sons. I found I enjoyed watching people improve their games.
What types of students have you worked with?
Men, women, young men. Have not worked with young ladies.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
First and foremost they listen to you and try to incorporate improvement with your swing. I've had pros that have totally tried to change my swing, and it has hurt my game trying to do so.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
How long you have been playing; how much you can play on a regular basis; how much better you want to be.
