About

I have been playing guitar for 50 years. I learned to read music at an early age and have always had a passion for playing the guitar fingerstyle. Classical guitar techniques blended with travis-style picking and bottleneck slide. I can teach music theory as well as fretboard knowledge. I teach open tunings as well as standard tuning.

    Frequently asked questions

For students new to guitar playing, I start with the basics.  The first lessons will cover the fundamentals that apply to all guitar playing.

Lessons usually go on two tracks, first left hand techniques and the fretboard, then right hand techniques and exercises.

I have been playing guitar for 50 years.  I took lessons myself at an early age and learned to read standard notation.  I worked toward a minor in musc while in college and was a guitar teacher with the Milwaukee chapter of Guitar for Vets for 3 years.  I am currently in a blues duo playing acoustic blues in the Phoenix area.

My standard pricing for lessons is $30 per 1/2 hour.

I was a guitar teacher for the Milwaukee chapter of Guitar for Vets for 3 years.  I taught adult students who we mostly  beginngers to play fingerstyle guitar.  When I retired and moved to Goodyear Arizona, I started teaching mainly adult students out of my home.

    Primarly adults and teens.

Before you consider taking lessons, the main thing you need to ask yourself how much time are you willing to commit to practicing.  Your progress is 100% determined by  how much time you spend with the guitar "between lessons".

    Questions to ask yourself.

    1. What kind of guitar music do most you like listening to?
    2. What style of guitar to you envision yourself playing?
    3. Do you have a favorite guitar player you admire?  What style of guitar does that person play?
