About

Wall-2-Wall Dance Center is located in Tempe and offers Tap Dance classes for ADULTS. We have classes for the total beginner through intermediate level tap student. The environment of the studio is friendly and comfortable. Because we are an adult studio, we do not accept any students under the age of 14. Teenagers who do attend our classes are expected to behave in a mature manner and be able to blend into the atmosphere of an adult class. Most of our students are retirees who take classes for fun and exercise.

    Frequently asked questions

Students who have never tap danced before start in our Never-2-Late class. This is our introduction to tap class where we teach some basics steps and vocabulary. Once students have been introduced to the basics, they then proceed to our Level 1 class. In Level 1, we work on really mastering the basics. Most students spend about a year in Level 1. After Level 1, students proceed to Level 2, which we call Time Steps and Traditions. Level 2 has 8 sub-levels (2.1 - 2.8). The material covered in each of these levels gradulaly increases in difficulty. Once students have mastered what is covered in all 8 sections of Level 2, they can proceed onto Level 3, which is an intermediate level technique class.

At the age of 5, Mary began her formal dance training at Miss Lynn's School of Dance in Buffalo, NY, where she studied tap, ballet, jazz, and gymnastics. Eventually, Mary's interest expanded into the world of theatre, and she began taking acting classes at the Studio Arena Theatre, also in Buffalo, NY.

Mary earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from St. Edward's Univ. in Austin, TX. While she was in college, she studied dance with Renata Powers Sanford, a former Broadway gypsy who had worked extensively with Bob Fosse. After completing her degree, she continued to train whenever and wherever possible. While living in Los Angeles, she regularly took classes at the Dupree Dance Studio. She also lived in New York City for a short period of time, and while she lived there, she took classes at the Broadway Dance Center and Steps on Broadway. Mary tries to visit New York on a regular basis, and when she does, she tries to find room in the schedule to take classes with some of the best tap teachers in the world, including Germaine Goodson, Germaine Salsberg, Barbara Duffy, Shea Sullivan, and tap dance duo Avi Miller and Ofer Ben.

She began teaching dance in 1998 at the Ballet Centre of Marilyn Bostic in Tempe, AZ.  In addition to teaching at the studio, she has also taught for the City of Tempe Cultural Arts Department and at several of the Maricopa Community Colleges.  She spent 13 years as an adjunct faculty member at Mesa Community College where she taught musical theatre dance, tap, and was the artistic director for “MCC On Tap,” which is Mesa Community College’s tap dance ensemble. While teaching at the community colleges, she discovered she really enjoyed teaching adults, especially those who are learning to tap dance for the first time. In 2013, she opened Wall-2-Wall Dance Center in Tempe. Wall-2-Wall Dance Center is an all adult, all tap dance studio. In addition to working with dancers, she has also worked with figure skaters in an off-ice capacity, focusing on flexibility, choreography, and presentation.
