Baseball training for young athletes that focuses on the pillars of fundamentals. Namely consistent contact while batting, throwing with confidence, fielding technique, understanding the game and safety. Repetition and conditioning while keeping practice fun and engaging. I’ve played the game for 30 years and have had the opportunity to coach for 2 years. I’ve umpired for 2 years as well and have seen and understand what skills need to be strengthened as players graduate from the younger levels of baseball.

Your Baseball Training questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.com.

How much do private baseball lessons cost?

Private baseball lessons cost $50 to $75 per 30-minute lesson and $80 to $140 per 1-hour lesson. The price depends on your location, the instructor's experience and reputation, the student's age, and whether the lesson includes extras like a video analysis of the player's performance.

Many coaches offer lower prices per lesson if you purchase a package that includes 6 or 10 lessons. The average package prices are:

  • 6 pack of 30-minute lessons: $270 – $420
  • 6 pack of 1-hour lessons: $450 – $720
  • 10 pack of 30-minute lessons: $400 – $600
  • 10 pack of 1-hour lessons: $700 – $1,100

Are private baseball lessons worth it?

Private baseball lessons may be worth it if your child currently plays the sport, loves it, and has expressed an interest in improving their skills and performance. Private lessons can help your child advance their skills, develop good habits, and avoid forming bad habits.

Motivation and a drive to improve are key factors in whether or not the lessons will actually help your child. It's important for your child to practice in between private lessons.

Children who receive private baseball lessons are usually more likely to advance to playing at higher levels than children who only receive group coaching during regular team practice. However private lessons don't guarantee your child will play collegiate or professional baseball.

What is the difference between private and semi-private baseball lessons?

In a private baseball lesson, the athlete trains one-on-one with an instructor who tailors the lesson specifically to their needs and skill level. In a semi-private lesson, two athletes work together with one instructor. Semi-private lessons, also called partner lessons, typically cost 10% to 20% less than private lessons. However, because the trainer's attention is divided between the two athletes, the athletes don't get the same level of individualized instruction as they would in a private lesson.

What age should you start pitching lessons?

Baseball instructors generally recommend that children start pitching lessons at around 8 to 12 years old, though there are no age requirements or exact rules. Learning fundamental pitching skills early on can help your child avoid developing bad habits that will be difficult for them to break later.

However, your child should not start taking pitching lessons until they are comfortable throwing the ball as well as catching the ball one-handed.

We have had a few lesson with Kevin and we could not be happier. Our son is so excited to go to practice every week and enjoys telling his brother about the new moves and sports stories that Kevin shares during practice. We have already seen an improvement in the 4 lessons that we have had, I am looking forward to seeing the improvement after all 10 lessons. I would highly recommend hiring Kevin as your coach!

Cody is friendly and positive and great with my 13 yr old. He comes prepared and on time every week and is great with communication. I can see the improvements and excitement in my player after just a few sessions. Cody clearly knows his baseball and knows how to connect with the kids. Highly recommended.

I've had the pleasure of knowing Coach Clayon since I was about 5 years old, first meeting him through the Babe Ruth Little League at Greenman Field. It must be said that anybody who coached a team did it strictly out of pure love for the kids, because there is no way they could ever be compensated for what they did for us youth (and they also weren't compensated at all anyways lol!).  Since then, I've played for Coach Clayton at Oakland Tech when he took over the head coaching position, another job of an unsung hero, as coaching a varsity sport within Oakland Public Schools was another level of a labor of love, and he showed up each and every day, and stayed after hours, for players like myself who wanted to get in extra work.  Simultaneously, he began expanding his work from the baseball field to the classrooms, and he became that much needed Black Male figure in the hallways of Oakland Tech that helped students navigate their identities and increase their emotional awareness and intelligence. The impact that he's had on many students' lives cannot be put into words, but I'd like to say that his actions speak loud enough."  Akintunde Ahmad
