Hi, I’m Deshon Thomas, a recent graduate from Arizona Christian University, where I played college baseball for four years as a center fielder. I’m currently a free agent, training to take my game to the next level. While pursuing my own baseball journey, I am passionate about sharing my knowledge and experiences with the next generation of athletes. For me, coaching is about more than just teaching the mechanics of baseball. It’s about serving others and mentoring young athletes both on and off the field. My goal is to instill not only physical skills but also the mental discipline that sets great players apart. By incorporating life lesson

I’ve been playing baseball for over 15 yrs, coaching from little league to minor A,B baseball. Coaching Keys Many young players turn their hand so that it's under the ball before they bring the arm forward. Some people call this "pie throwing". Think of how you have to hold a pie to throw it at someone; the palm is facing up so that you don't drop the pie. This is the opposite of how you should throw a baseball. For players who do this, have them stop their motion just before they bring the arm forward and check to see that the hand is on top of the ball and that the ball is pointing straight back. Other players will let their elbows drop bel

Your Baseball Training questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.com.

How much do private baseball lessons cost?

Private baseball lessons cost $50 to $75 per 30-minute lesson and $80 to $140 per 1-hour lesson. The price depends on your location, the instructor's experience and reputation, the student's age, and whether the lesson includes extras like a video analysis of the player's performance.

Many coaches offer lower prices per lesson if you purchase a package that includes 6 or 10 lessons. The average package prices are:

  • 6 pack of 30-minute lessons: $270 – $420
  • 6 pack of 1-hour lessons: $450 – $720
  • 10 pack of 30-minute lessons: $400 – $600
  • 10 pack of 1-hour lessons: $700 – $1,100

Are private baseball lessons worth it?

Private baseball lessons may be worth it if your child currently plays the sport, loves it, and has expressed an interest in improving their skills and performance. Private lessons can help your child advance their skills, develop good habits, and avoid forming bad habits.

Motivation and a drive to improve are key factors in whether or not the lessons will actually help your child. It's important for your child to practice in between private lessons.

Children who receive private baseball lessons are usually more likely to advance to playing at higher levels than children who only receive group coaching during regular team practice. However private lessons don't guarantee your child will play collegiate or professional baseball.

What is the difference between private and semi-private baseball lessons?

In a private baseball lesson, the athlete trains one-on-one with an instructor who tailors the lesson specifically to their needs and skill level. In a semi-private lesson, two athletes work together with one instructor. Semi-private lessons, also called partner lessons, typically cost 10% to 20% less than private lessons. However, because the trainer's attention is divided between the two athletes, the athletes don't get the same level of individualized instruction as they would in a private lesson.

What age should you start pitching lessons?

Baseball instructors generally recommend that children start pitching lessons at around 8 to 12 years old, though there are no age requirements or exact rules. Learning fundamental pitching skills early on can help your child avoid developing bad habits that will be difficult for them to break later.

However, your child should not start taking pitching lessons until they are comfortable throwing the ball as well as catching the ball one-handed.

Cody is friendly and positive and great with my 13 yr old. He comes prepared and on time every week and is great with communication. I can see the improvements and excitement in my player after just a few sessions. Cody clearly knows his baseball and knows how to connect with the kids. Highly recommended.

Mark was awesome with my son in coaching him on pitching and hitting. I like that he spent some time 1st getting him to stretch before we even starting on a lesson. He was patience and got right to the point of how to do each lesson. He also turned each lesson into a game, which is a nice change as it engaged my son more with each lesson. Mark was professional, quick to respond to my questions, and was able to find a time that worked out. At the end of the lesson he shared a video on how to stretch before pitching and gave my son homework before the next lesson. I will defiantly be doing another lesson with Mark and recommend him to anyone looking to improve your kids baseball skills
