Caitlin D. says, "My six year old son has begged to play soccer for at least 18 months. I’m guilty of avoiding such lessons based on how trepidatious and self conscious he is; I knew he’d need to build self confidence and basic skills prior to joining any team. Honestly, I cannot say enough good things about the way Coach Clint seamlessly tailors each lesson, his positivity and understanding of how feedback impacts all kiddos, especially those starting out- it’s been such a positive experience. My two cents may sound effusive but I’ve seen my son develop greater self confidence after just four lessons." Read more

I’m Adam, a dedicated baseball coach with a lifelong passion for the game. Over the past 20 years, I’ve been deeply involved in baseball here in San Diego, from youth levels all the way through college. I’ve provided private instruction, coached high school athletes, and worked with competitive travel ball clubs. My own playing journey was as a utility player, capable of handling all positions on the field. One of the biggest influences on my development was receiving hitting lessons from World Series champion Kelly Paris, a former Major League player with the St. Louis Cardinals. That elite-level insight, paired with my background in weight

Over the last 25 years I have worked hard at my craft and studied the art of pitching and hitting. At the age of 10, I set a goal of receiving a free college education through my baseball talents. Hard work and dedication allowed me to achieve my goal and I hope to pass on my knowledge of the game to our city's youth. Seeing the growth of a young ball player and watching his confidence build, on and off the baseball diamond. I also enjoy teaching respect for the game and developing sportsmanship, while setting goals collectively and achieving them as a team....

Your Baseball Training questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.com.

How much do private baseball lessons cost?

Private baseball lessons cost $50 to $75 per 30-minute lesson and $80 to $140 per 1-hour lesson. The price depends on your location, the instructor's experience and reputation, the student's age, and whether the lesson includes extras like a video analysis of the player's performance.

Many coaches offer lower prices per lesson if you purchase a package that includes 6 or 10 lessons. The average package prices are:

  • 6 pack of 30-minute lessons: $270 – $420
  • 6 pack of 1-hour lessons: $450 – $720
  • 10 pack of 30-minute lessons: $400 – $600
  • 10 pack of 1-hour lessons: $700 – $1,100

Are private baseball lessons worth it?

Private baseball lessons may be worth it if your child currently plays the sport, loves it, and has expressed an interest in improving their skills and performance. Private lessons can help your child advance their skills, develop good habits, and avoid forming bad habits.

Motivation and a drive to improve are key factors in whether or not the lessons will actually help your child. It's important for your child to practice in between private lessons.

Children who receive private baseball lessons are usually more likely to advance to playing at higher levels than children who only receive group coaching during regular team practice. However private lessons don't guarantee your child will play collegiate or professional baseball.

What is the difference between private and semi-private baseball lessons?

In a private baseball lesson, the athlete trains one-on-one with an instructor who tailors the lesson specifically to their needs and skill level. In a semi-private lesson, two athletes work together with one instructor. Semi-private lessons, also called partner lessons, typically cost 10% to 20% less than private lessons. However, because the trainer's attention is divided between the two athletes, the athletes don't get the same level of individualized instruction as they would in a private lesson.

What age should you start pitching lessons?

Baseball instructors generally recommend that children start pitching lessons at around 8 to 12 years old, though there are no age requirements or exact rules. Learning fundamental pitching skills early on can help your child avoid developing bad habits that will be difficult for them to break later.

However, your child should not start taking pitching lessons until they are comfortable throwing the ball as well as catching the ball one-handed.
