I am an analytics driven baseball coach. I have worked as an assistant baseball coach at Granite Bay High for 2 years and was also the JV Head Coach at Roseville High School for 2 years. I work at Optimum Athletes in Sacramento which is a data centered training facility doing analytics and projects for the founder of the company. I believe that understanding data will help young adults understand what they are doing and not doing correctly. I use radar guns, blast motion batting sensors, and rapsodo pitching sensors to accumulate data and I have software to break down the data to present the data to the athletes so it is very manageable for t

Brian H. says, "If your kid has missed the basics from bad little league coach or lack of focus and you want your kid to progress to a new level of playing, Greg can train all the basics of baseball training with easy tips and drills for the kid to remember. He has really helped out with my kids poor throwing through aquired bad habbits, but in just a few weeks and training sessions my son has improved a lot and it going to be his best year yet. We branched off in many areas and found many things he's missed in the 2 seasons prior." Read more

Baseball instruction Hitting and Pitching: I play professional baseball for the Great Falls Voyagers and played college baseball for the University of Iowa and have 5 years of division one experience with 1 year professional. I’ve taught myself how to throw hard and got up to 98 MPH off the mound. I topped out at 87 MPH my senior year of high school and have gained 11 miles per hour over the last 7 years. I love teaching baseball and helping people get better. I also love to help athletes out with the mental side of baseball which is one of the most important facets of the game.

Your Baseball Training questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.

How much do private baseball lessons cost?

Private baseball lessons cost $50 to $75 per 30-minute lesson and $80 to $140 per 1-hour lesson. The price depends on your location, the instructor's experience and reputation, the student's age, and whether the lesson includes extras like a video analysis of the player's performance.

Many coaches offer lower prices per lesson if you purchase a package that includes 6 or 10 lessons. The average package prices are:

  • 6 pack of 30-minute lessons: $270 – $420
  • 6 pack of 1-hour lessons: $450 – $720
  • 10 pack of 30-minute lessons: $400 – $600
  • 10 pack of 1-hour lessons: $700 – $1,100

Are private baseball lessons worth it?

Private baseball lessons may be worth it if your child currently plays the sport, loves it, and has expressed an interest in improving their skills and performance. Private lessons can help your child advance their skills, develop good habits, and avoid forming bad habits.

Motivation and a drive to improve are key factors in whether or not the lessons will actually help your child. It's important for your child to practice in between private lessons.

Children who receive private baseball lessons are usually more likely to advance to playing at higher levels than children who only receive group coaching during regular team practice. However private lessons don't guarantee your child will play collegiate or professional baseball.

What is the difference between private and semi-private baseball lessons?

In a private baseball lesson, the athlete trains one-on-one with an instructor who tailors the lesson specifically to their needs and skill level. In a semi-private lesson, two athletes work together with one instructor. Semi-private lessons, also called partner lessons, typically cost 10% to 20% less than private lessons. However, because the trainer's attention is divided between the two athletes, the athletes don't get the same level of individualized instruction as they would in a private lesson.

What age should you start pitching lessons?

Baseball instructors generally recommend that children start pitching lessons at around 8 to 12 years old, though there are no age requirements or exact rules. Learning fundamental pitching skills early on can help your child avoid developing bad habits that will be difficult for them to break later.

However, your child should not start taking pitching lessons until they are comfortable throwing the ball as well as catching the ball one-handed.
