I have been teaching piano/keyboard and music theory for over 35 years. The sheer volume of students I’ve taught and man hours I’ve put in has taught me a lot about human nature, about myself, and about what works and what doesn't. I know I need to project enthusiasm on my end to motivate students, and at the same time I am only part of the equation in how a student progresses as a musician. People have varying degrees of musical intelligence and everyone is responsible for what they achieve in life. I am not attached to how fast you grow, but I expect you to try hard, and I push as hard as I can to encourage you to be your best....

Pierre began his violin studies at the age of 8 under the guidance of Li Lin in the Bay Area. Over the next decade, he won multiple local violin competitions such as the Senior Strings Division of the VOCE competition in 2005, and toured and performed with both the California Youth Symphony (CYS) and the San Francisco Youth Symphony Orchestra all over the world. His studies brought him to the New England Conservatory, where he earned his bachelor's in Violin Performance. I am a UC Berkeley student with 12+ years of personal music training and 3+ years of music teaching experience. I have successfully guided students in piano, singing, sight reading, and music theory for the MTAC Certificate of Merit Exams, ABRSM Exams, and AP Music Theory Exam. From playing piano as a kid to accompanying choirs and eventually earning my degree in Piano Performance at San Jose State University, music has always been my heart and soul. I gained my piano training and music education in Taiwan (BM) and Japan (MM) and have been teaching for 25 years, currently in Cupertino, Santa Clara and Mountain View. I love the opportunity to share my love of music and to inspire students to achieve their best. I use the music exams of the MTAC and ABRSM and enter students for several competitions as additional motivation. My students have ranged from ages 4-18, many of them competition prize winners and gaining the highest honors in exams. I see piano lessons as an opportunity not only to excel in music but to improve learning skills in general and add to their quality of life.
