Jason D. says, "As an adult taking Bass Guitar lessons, I appreciate Ben's patience and methodical process to teach the Bass Guitar. He has an excellent set up to show students how to maintain their instrument (string replacement, tuning, etc). Ben takes time to explain how the instrument is built and works. He works with you to find and achieve goals in your learning experience. Not only does he provide guidance he is an excellent musician and will demonstrate various techniques and music styles (jazz to speed metal). I highly recommend Ben for any lessons on Bass, Guitar, or Ukulele." Read more

Ji C. says, "She is very professional piano teacher and pianist and the studying experience was amazing. I studied the piano for a while, but then I did not practice for a long time and after that I met Silvia. My goal is performing 4 or 5 pieces well. First, she gave me S. Bach prelude No.1 to check my level. Then she gave me a list of pieces to pick. I choose a Bach minuet in G Major, Czerny 599 etudes No.45 and No.1 and Mozart piano sonata in C major. Every piece she gave my several lessons to make sure I perform in a right way and also she taught me how to analyze the music and understand the music, such as the structure of a piece and the meaning of changes of harmony. ex. she played really well!!! I recorded many of her performances!" Read more

Reviews for San Jose music theory teachers

I have had the pleasure of taking piano lessons from Toby- Samantha for 4 months. I was drawn to Toby when I saw her experience as a piano teacher of all levels, her formal education and her experience as a professional teacher/composer. I am 70 years old and she has helped me build an understanding of how to read notes, how to time the music and build my confidence all while playing music that I love, which is classical music. I started piano lessons as a way to challenge my aging brain and have ended up with that and so much more. Toby also has unique Informal Practice Performances for her students which helps build confidence, a means to understand excellent playing, and also builds community between the students. I recently attended one of these and was really pleased at how wonderful the playing and discussion was. Toby is also very professional and always responds quickly and reschedules my lessons as needed. All in all, she is a fantastic teacher who really cares about her student's progress.

Ken is a very experienced musician and performer and really teaches what it’s all about, he uses his own material and everything you do has a specific purpose. And because Ken teaches independently of some book, or guide he can always adjust his lessons to what you need or are struggling.

Aaron has helped me a lot. Especially improving my left hand capabilities. He is familiar with many different styles of music. He is also very good at figuring out how to play pieces that were not written for accordion.

In the course of a year Ben has introduced me to a variety of ukulele playing techniques (strumming patterns, fingering, muting, hammer-ons, hammer-offs, overtones, slides, pinching etc.) some of which I've been able to learn and execute with some proficiency. He's also taught me how to look at sheet music and puzzle out for myself fingering for melodies and chord fragments based on the chord structures to which these melodies and chord fragments are associated. In this time I've gone from being a nearly 60-year old complete beginner to being someone able to competently play melody and/or chord lines for the following songs "Fly Me to the Moon", "Walk Don't Run", "Sounds of Silence", "Kawika", "The Entertainer", "Hide Away", "Crazy", "Sweet Lelani", "Tears on My Pillow", "Behind Blue Eyes" "Breakdown", "Killing Me Softly" "White Christmas", "Mele Kalikimaka" "Vietnam", and some others.

My daughter, Rebecca, has been taking private piano lessons at Melody Ocean Studio for the past five years, and my experience has been nothing short of exceptional. My teacher is knowledgeable, patient, and truly passionate about music. She has a wealth of experience and expertise in teaching students of all ages and skill levels. The lessons are well-structured and tailored to students' individual needs and goals. Ms. Yang incorporates a variety of teaching methods and resources to ensure that she's challenged and engaged in her learning. She is also very supportive and encouraging, which has helped the teen to build confidence and improve the playing skills over time. In addition to the high-quality instruction, the studio itself is well-equipped and comfortable. The environment is conducive to learning and allows students to focus and practice without distractions. The scheduling and communication with the studio staff have also been seamless, making the whole experience stress-free and enjoyable. Overall, I highly recommend Melody Ocean Studio for anyone looking to learn piano in a private setting. The quality of instruction, support, and resources available make it an excellent choice for students of all ages and skill levels.

Orange Music Studio was definitely one of the highlights of my high school career! I took lessons from Gala Yaroshevsky for roughly two years and she was one of the most passionate and influential teachers I've had in my life. She has the ability to go far beyond just teaching the notes and techniques and makes music such an immersive, enjoyable, and unique experience for her students. She guided me through the Advanced level of the Certificate of Merit and both the Flute Choirs and Philharmonic Orchestra of the San Jose Youth Symphony. It would not have been the same with anyone else!
