Jacob L. says, "Ryan was fantastic! I was looking for a teacher who could help me play more in tune, and one of the first things he suggested was playing duets together. He chose a duet that was perfect for my skill level (I’ve only been playing for about a year) and gave me a variety of exercises to improve my bow technique, form, and overall control. I can’t recommend him enough." Read more

Minal S. says, "My daughter has been taking piano lessons with Ms. Elisa at the Yamaha Music Center in Irvine since kindergarten. She began in group lessons and has transitioned to private lessons, still with Ms. Elisa, her very first teacher. I cannot speak highly enough of Ms. Elisa; she is incredibly talented, dedicated, and inspiring. Her teaching style strikes a perfect balance between firm guidance and genuine care. Thanks to her nurturing and encouraging approach, my daughter has developed a deep love for piano. In all these years, not once has she expressed a desire to quit, a true testament to Ms. Elisa’s influence and support. Ms. Elisa goes above and beyond to keep my daughter motivated. She consistently challenges her with diverse musical pieces and encourages her to participate in piano competitions, always offering positive reinforcement regardless of the outcome. Under her guidance, my daughter has flourished, showing remarkable progress and growing confidence in her abilities. What stands out most is Ms. Elisa’s unwavering commitment. She keeps in regular contact with us, providing thoughtful updates on our daughter's development. Now in 8th grade, my daughter is preparing for an international piano competition. Ms. Elisa has been dedicating additional time, nearly two extra hours on Saturdays—outside of regular lessons to help her prepare. Her flexibility and dedication are truly admirable. We feel incredibly fortunate to have Ms. Elisa as our daughter’s piano teacher. She has played an important role in shaping her musical journey, and we are so grateful for her continued support and mentorship. (Minal Shah, mother of Trisha Shah)" Read more

How do I find the best classical piano lessons near me?

Find classical piano lessons from private instructors by looking through the listings here on the Lessons website. Local music schools sometimes offer virtual lessons online as well.

  • What textbooks do I need, and what's their cost?
  • Do you give assignments or pieces to memorize after each lesson?
  • Can you adapt your teaching style based on the individual student's needs?
  • What should I bring with me to our lessons?

Within ONE lesson, Howard could pinpoint EXACTLY what my trouble areas are, and not only is he able to articulate a very clear plan for dealing with those, but he has also helped me with the burdening amount of pain that plagues my joints and muscles when I play something technically demanding! Furthermore, he is very focused, understanding, knowledgeable and gentle! After having many verbally.... difficult teachers whose teaching involved quite a bit of negative reinforcement, it is an absolute pleasure and an eye opening experience to have a patient, understanding teacher. Some people may learn quite well in that fashion, and there was a period of time when I actually believed, or rather was brainwashed into thinking that being verbally berated would serve as motivation. But now I see quite clearly that is not the case: I learn a lot better and I am more motivated to practice when I find it a pleasure to go to my piano lessons! Thank you, Howard for all your dedication, patience and knowledge!

I decided to take piano lessons in my senior citizen years after not having played since I was a child. Deborah's patience and encouragement during weekly lessons have given me great confidence. She guides me through each piece carefully focusing on techniques to help me improve. I also think her selection of music books and practice exercises are appropriate for my abilty. And , she gently challenges me with more difficult pieces as I become more comfortable and capable. I would highly recommend Deborah to anyone regardless of age who wants to learn how to play the piano .
